I Have a HP 6720s Laptop. It has an Intel Celeron Processor. How can I find what chipset is on the board? I upgraded to a Core 2 Duo T7500 processor. The laptop does not always boot properly. The screen is completely garbled and sometimes black after booting. I have put the original processor back in and everything is ok. I'm assuming I have the wrong chipset on board? Is there a flash Bios upgrade so that I can upgrade the processor?
Regards
Mark

Hi, Mark:
Below is the link to the quickspecs for your notebook.
Page 3 indicates your PC has the Mobile Intel GLE960 Express Chipset since it came with a Celeron processor.

Below is the link to the Intel chipset specs which show the compatible processors.
The FSB only supports 533 MHz processors, so if you want to experiment with a Pentium C2D processor, you will need to select one that has a 533 MHz FSB.

No BIOS flash will fix the issue you have.
No guarantees whatsoever that it will work because I never tried it, but maybe the T5300 will work.
That would be the fastest 533 MHz Pentium C2D processor I know of.
I see them going on eBay in used but tested and working condition for as low as $10.00 delivered.
Maybe you want to take a gamble on one of those.

Paul
