Jazz.

If you have the old motherboard could get the part number from it and the part number from the new one???

The number can be located under the memory.

Will look something  like this.

The motherboard sold to you is from a DV6z 7000 CTO laptop and should be same hardware as your original motherboard.  If you have your original Recovery Discs for the DV6  try them. You "may" have to order Recovery Disks from the DV6z 7000 cto page.

The reason Windows System properties is showing G60 is because you installed the hdd in the other machine and did the Recovery from discs for it. Windows does not automatically switch when you put the hdd back in the DV6.Only way to have Windows system info show your model is to run Recovery either from your discs for the Dv6 or order new media if they don't work.

Spare parts number matches on the two boards.

I repeat _The reason Windows System properties is showing G60 is because you installed the hdd in the other machine -G60-and did a Recovery from  the G60 discs. You need to do a Recovery with discs from your DV6 to get the correct info showing. It would probably run a lot better also with correct drivers loaded.

Btw-I'm actually suprised Windows hasn't de-activated being moved to another machine/motherboard.I did notice that "Activation status" is showing as not available in the properties window.

Thank you for your help.

One last question. I made a "Backup" of the computer I want to re-intsall on. It has 115 zip files. I looked through them and it seems to have everything in it.

So I am going to put this HD back into my G60 and run and get a new terabyte internal HD to install in the DV6

Once I have put the new HD into the DV6 how do I get it to load windows backup through the zip files I have? I plan on putting them all on a single flash drive.

So when I put up and have the flash drive with the back up files plugged in, what do I do to re-install everything?

Again thank you for all your help and sorry I kept getting frustrated. I am just happy I found my back up files. I always back up my computers I just could not find it until now.

Any help on getting it to load would be greatly appreciated!

Two questions for you.

1-when you formatted the hdd & put it in the G60 how did you install Windows? I assume Recovery Discs? Do you have Recovery Discs for the DV6 to install Windows?

2-what type of "Backup" are you refrring to? There is System Image & there is Backup of files/data. Only a System Image can restore Windows & all files/data.

Honestly I am not sure. I know it has all the drivers and programs in the zip files. It is just a set of 115 zip files. How can I tell which is which? It has everything in those zip files that was on my computer, so not sure what to do at this point. In the zip files is an HP files that has "Drivers" "drive Guard" "lo-jack" "recovery" which has the recovery manager exe in it. I also saw a microsfot folder that said Windows 7 SP 2 I think it was. So how can I tell what is what?

What would be the file extention or file name for an image file from my laptop. I have over 6 terabytes of stuff, so I would have to have something to search for in order to find it, if I have it, which I think I made one, I usually do.
