This seems rediculous. I have a six month old HP 2000 notebook, Win 8.1 64 bit. After v8.1 network card drops connection then I have to manually reconnect. This is with a full strength signal. None of my other devices have issues with my network.
My post is about drivers. The driver is 10.0.0.274 from Nov 13. I found a newer driver, but does not install. It goes through all the install steps, says it was successsful, yet the version and date does not update. Yes, I am installing as Admin.
Why is the driver so hard to find. On this site, someone posted a website from a third world country.
HP, do you know about this issue. Can I just get a link from an HP hosted web page with an updated driver.

Hello garywi, welcome to the HP Forums.
It appears that after upgrading to Windows 8.1 you're having issues with the network dropping connections and are looking for a driver. I would like to help you with this.
To be abel to provide an HP driver, that may work could you please provide the Model and Product numbers for your notebook.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

Hi,
Thank you for that information.
I would like you to first use the Recovery Manger to restore the wireless driver to the factory default. After this you can then update the driver by using the HP Support Assistant.
Try this and let me know how it goes.
Thanks.

Ok, I rolled back the driver. Then ran HP Support Assistant. It found a new driver for the wireless card, it downloaded and then started installing, but the install failed. There was no error message in HP Support Assistant. There is not a green check box next to Installing. The driver is now at 8/15/2013 v 10.0.0.263.
I had HP Support assistant check again for updated drivers and it finds the Qualcomm Atheros wireless driver for v8.1.
Its not installing bro. I have this same crappy wireless card in a Dell machine and they are having install issues too..
What next..

I did another test. I completely uninstalled the wireless driver from device manager. Then I ran HP support assistant. It finds a new driver, I ran install, says it installed. Then I go check device manager and it did not install. The wireless card remains unconfigured and does not show up in device manager.

Hi,
I have a feeling there may be something conflicting with the driver updates, that or it's a bad card.
To test further on whats happening try the following:
Clean Boot the notebook and try using the HP Support Assistant.
If that fails:
Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 😎 - this will guide you through testing the wireless card. If any fails then you may want to replace the card. If it passes continue on.
Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 😎 - in-case the hardware passes, it could mean a conflict in Windows if none of the above helped. This will guide you through the System Refresh process. Be sure to backup your files.
Let me know how everything goes.
Thanks for the replies.
