Hello, dear HP Support.
I have a laptop - HP G42.
currently i have 3 gb RAM.
I want to upgrade it to 8 GB.
1) Can I use this 2 memory slots (2*4) for this upgrade? Are they compatible memory slots?
2) It is necessary to somehow test work laptop after this upgrade?
Description of this memory slots:
-Kingston KVR13S9S8K2/8
-DDR3
-SODIMM 204-contacts
-10600 MB/s

1. You can upgrade to 8GB using 2 slots (2 x 4GB).
2. Please use the second manual of the following link to find out RAM specs (page #6):

The manual also shows you how to install RAM (page #60)
