HP 14-r015tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi fellow HP experts,

I own an HP 14-r015tx Notebook PC (Click here to see my laptop) with a Ralink RT3290 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth card running on Windows 10 64-bit.

My Wi-Fi was working well, but now it had stopped working after I ran "sfc /scannow" on Command Prompt in Windows Safe Mode. But I know that wasn't the case, because "sfc /scannow" scans Windows for corrupted files and fix them, right?

Anyways, now, when I connect to a Wi-Fi network, I got this message:

And as a result, I can't connect to anything. Now I use a USB Wi-Fi adapter and it works for the same network.

My driver version is the latest: 5.0.57.0 and it comes from Ralink/MediaTek's website. I have tried using HP's one and MediaTek's one, rolling back the driver to 5.0.48.0 or 5.0.37.0 and reinstalling drivers, removing from DriverStore, removing from Drivers folder in System32, hard-reset, sfc /scannow again, Update drivers online from the Device Manager, and everything you would imagine. I borne no fruit.

Another thing is, my Bluetooth device also gone now. It usually works well but now, it's gone and here's my Device Manager view:

Oh yeah, my Wi-Fi button on keyboard has its light turned on white all the time, even when Flight mode on or off, Wi-Fi on or off. But previously everything worked just fine. It just won't go orange. Sometimes, yeah it just kinda blinks white-orange-white for couple milliseconds. I tried reinstalling HP Wireless Button Driver and still, no luck.

So, please give me a way out of this frustration, dear experts.

NB: Didn't mean to be rude, but please don't ask me to do like restart your PC, reset/refresh your PC, reinstall your drivers, hard-reset, check your driver version and update, BIOS updates, check on HP Support Assistant or any other "common suggestions". I would prefer something more, technical.

Thank you in advance.

Hi @phillmont22900,

Thank you for posting at HP Forums!

I understand that your wireless card with bluetooth stopped working, and you have tried reinstalling and updating the wireless driver. I want to assist you in this matter.

You may consider trying the automatic troubleshooting shown on Step 2 on this link: Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 10)

Also, you can run tests for hardware failures to test if it is a hardware issue with the wireless module. If you confirmed it is a hardware issue, you may consider contacting HP Support to arrange a repair. ( If you live outside the US/Canada, please click this link

If the laptop is out of warranty, you can open the case and check the connection of the wireless card by yourself. Here is the manual. And here is the HP Parts Store if you need to replace the part.

If this helps you to reach a solution, please click the "Accept as Solution" button down below in this message. If you wish to say "thanks" for my effort to help, click the "thumbs up" to give me Kudos. :catvery-happy:

@SDJL

Hello, I have tried to get my laptop (HP 14-r015tx) to HP Service Center.

They said that my Wi-Fi card must be changed and that cost me a lot. So I am thinking to change the card myself.

My questions are:

- Does my laptop's (HP 14-r015tx) BIOS have this "whitelisting"? If yes, what cards that I can use beside Ralink RT3290?

- If my laptop's BIOS does not have this whitelisting, what card can I use to replace this Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn?

Thank you in advance.
