Thanks but that link isn't working. I'm going to try the one above and see if that works. I'll let you know.

I take that back, that is the same one I've been taken to a million times. If you can send a link that works I'd be grateful.

Ok so I have an HP Pavillion model 26 something with a ralink adapter. When I 1st got the computer it was hooked up by Ethernet everything was fine. Than my cable company gave me this new router and modem and had me go wirelss and it was fine for a week or so than all of a sudden and it's been almosta year now I keep losing connection and HP diagnoses and has to reset the Ralink adapter. It's gotten worse here lately. Usually it diagnoses resets tells me something about DNS and I have internet again and 20 minutes later it does it again. My husbands is a different model with built in bluetooth and his has the broadcam adapter. Should I buy one of those and replace this ralink? I saw where someone else did that I can't go back ethernet my modem/router is in the other room. Someone from TWC tried telling me that the Atheros routers aren't compatible with HP and windows 8 but it's the ralink adapter. I just need to find a compatible adapter for windows 8 my husbands Broadcom works fine.  Rose

We have had a HP G6 for a number of years which has always had flakey wifi. On reading this forum I replaced the Ralink RT 5390 with a Broadcom 4313 bought from ebay for $15. 10 minutes changing the card and 10 minutes dowinloading the drivers from the HP web site and hay presto - wifi fixed.

Years of drop-outs fixed in a 20 minutes.

Mines the ralink 5390 also and i have windows 8 so will the same broadcom you bought work on my HP Pavillion? My husbands has a broadcom but there's no number.

Thanks I'll see if it works but I doubt it.  I went to update driver already and it said I had the latest driver. I just had it happen again I went to load a page it wouldn't load I had to open IE and let it run it's diagnostics network thing to bring me back up.  I see RT539x is that the one i would choose?

Yes, that is the one I downloaded. You have to scroll through this list to find it and it is working.

Thanks! The software is higher than what I have so if this is correct I'll try it and see.

I disabled the NDIS 6 Filter and was able to keep the Internet connection going and the Wifi Adapter did not keep turning off. However, I just updated to the latest version of Kaspersky and when I disabled the NDIS 6 Filter, it does not stop the Wifi Adapter from shutting off. I even seem to be having a problem with the Realteck PCI FE Family Controller will not work when the Ralink RT5390 Wifi is working!!

Why does Kaspersky have to conflict with everything?  Any ideas on what I can do?

Well, I guess I'll backup. I updated the driver and it worked at my house. I gave it back to the owner and it did not work for him. I must have disabled the Norton Internet Service service somehwere along the way for it to work at my house. He gave it back to me to work on some more. Found on other sites that disabling the Internet software was a fixe. I did the same, disabled NIS under services.msc and it continued to working even after several restarts. So I guess Norton was the culprit in my case.

I downloaded this update cause it had a higher number than my driver and it's still doing it. I keep losing internet on here and I use Chrome but when the page doesn't reload or come up I open I.E. and have to check the diagnostics.and it laways says resetting Ralink adapter than I am b ack up but it's a pain to have to go through that. My Nortons had expired but we just updated for another year Intenret 360 maybe Nortons so what do I disable to see if that fixes me? If not i foind a Netgear adapter I'm gonna buy at Walmart for 30 bucks.
