I have a similar issue, but I believe it's the housing and not the cable. I have to push up on the charge cable once I plug it in to make it "register" and begin providing power, but once it starts charging, it doesn't stop until i physically unplug the charge cable.

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.

 

This issue could occur if the power settings are not correct.

 

Please follow the steps listed below to reset the power options to defaults:

 

1) Right-click on the battery icon on the right-hand side bottom corner of the taskbar and click on power options.

2) Click on "Change Plan Settings" for the power plan option which is selected by default.

3) At the bottom of the page, click on Restore default settings for this plan.

4) Click on Save Changes.

 

You may also update the BIOS from the link: HP Notebook System BIOS Update
