I need to recover my Windows Vista OS. I upgraded to Windows 7 and am having 2 big compatability issues. My sound card and my CD/DVD Rom. Windows won't detect my Conexant High Definition 221 device and my CD/DVD Rom door won't open once Windows loads. It will before, but not after. Strange. I downloaded and installed the HP Recovery patch for computer's upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista, but HP Recovery doesn't appear under Disk Management. The only things that appear are mt C drive, my FreeAgent external, and something called System Reserved. I can't use other methods to create a recovery disc due to the fact that I my CD/DVD Rom are not working. HELP!!!

It sounds like you did a clean install of 7 and deleted your Recovery partition.Contact HP to order a Recovery Disk set.
Btw,you may need some drivers for the Audio, etc.Which model do you have? Locating Model Number

I have drivers up to my ears. I tried to install all the updated drivers, but while Windows fails to recognize the audio device, it won't accept the matching drivers. I already contacted HP and they said since my notebook is no longer under warranty, they won't be able to send me any discs.

All I can find is info on how to buy discs and how to get back to the original OS using HP Recovery. My DVD Rom is not working due to the compatability issues and HP Recovery is gone from Disk Maintenance. Can you link me to the exact page and tell me where on the page to find it?

Windows 8 beta is out. I know I'm going to get this question a lot...
Has anyone figured out how to restore the F11 Recovery Partition functionality?
I normally tell the user to go buy recovery disks or look into making the recovery partition Active.
It just seems so lame that no one has ever figured out how to restore the F11 at boot/post functionality on HP computers.
Edit the MBR and or the VBRs?
Thanks...
Here's a couple of partition info dumps on a couple of HP factory HDDs for discussion purposes:
Presario CQ60, Windows 7 64-bit:
Presario C714NR, Windows Vista 32-bit (disk 1 because it is being accessed as an external drive as I work on it):
