I have pavilion notebook. I tried to make factory restore. It starts the progress, then it asked for "insert recovery disk #2" and opened the DVD drive. I inserted recovery disc 2. But even after inserting it stands on "insert recovery disc #2 " and not responding.so I reinserted the disc several times also tried all 6 recovery discs, but no use. Then I cancelled the progress. It asked for reboot-shutsown-cancel. I opted shutdown. But when I started again, it is showing "no boot device found, please install operating system"
Then I clicked Esc -> F11 -> hp recovery manager -> factory restore, it starts restore, but again the same problem- it stills on "insert disc #2". Please help what to do now!!!!

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have an HP Pavillion laptop and you initiated a recovery using the recovery disks. I read that the first disk installed fine and asked to insert the second disk But the laptop did not detect the 2 recovery disk. Due to this, the recovery had to be aborted. Not the laptop keeps saying "no boot disk found." Also, the F11 recovery partition no longer works. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Please let me know the exact product model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
  • Why did yo initiate the recovery? Were you facing any issues with the laptop?
  • Did you create the recovery disks by yourself on this computer or did you order them from HP?

Meanwhile, I did some research and suggest you to perform the following steps to test the hardware components:

  • Make sure the power cord and adapter is connected to the system and wall outlet.

  • Press and hold the power button until the computer turns off completely.

  • Turn on the computer.

  • Immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second, until the UEFI Hardware Diagnostics screen is displayed.

  • In the UEFI Main menu, select Component Tests.

UEFI Main menu with Component Tests selected

List of the Component tests

  • From the above list, please run a test on the hard drive and later run a test on the optical drive

Optical Drive - The Optical Drive Tests are a set of the following three tests: Sequential Read Test, Random Read Test, and Write Read Compare Test. Select one of the tests listed, then click Run once. You need to insert a CD or DVD to complete this testing.

Each test takes 1 to 2 minutes to run.

Please let me know how it goes. Based on the results, we will take the next course of action. Good luck! 🙂
