Hi @cornflakes,
Good Day! Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums! I read your post about an issue with the computer freezing using IE, Firefox and the wifi not working. Besides HP support assistant seems to be stuck or frozen. I will be delighted to assist you here. 🙂
Fabulous diagnosis and superb analysis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. It is always a privilege to work with technical specialists like you. 🙂
You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. We greatly appreciate you for doing business with HP.
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this.
- Please let me know the complete model# or the product# of the unit to assist you better.
As the notebook has numerous issues, It is possible that there may be a hardware issue with the computer.
I request you to run complete system diagnostics from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03467259
It takes about 2 hours to run and will report a failure code for failed components. Please make a note of any failed component. If anything fails, then the issue is hardware related.
So notebook needs to be serviced for this. Please contact HP phone support by following these steps:
Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number, Case number and phone number appear.
They will be happy to assist you immediately.
If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.
If warranty options are not available with HP and if the computer is out of warranty by a long time, then please contact a local technician to get the unit serviced or fixed.
HP may not have service options for the unit anymore if it is out of warranty by a long time as it is not manufactured by HP anymore.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂 Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.
If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂
Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂

Hi @cornflakes,
I reviewed the post comprehensively. Superb job on trying these troubleshooting steps. Brilliant effort truly. 🙂 Kudos to you on that score. 🙂
Please first check if a hard wired Ethernet cable works fine and you are able to use internet explorer to go online?
If you are able to achieve both of these, then Please try these steps to delete the network drivers and reinstall them from the HP support site.
- Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand Network adapters>then select the wifi drivers and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers. Then check the box that says delete the software for this device.
- Then restart the computer and update the bios, chipset and wifi from this link: http://hp.com/drivers
- Please select the country and type the product# of the unit. Then follow the on-screen instructions.
If this is not an option, recovery did not complete correctly like it should have. SO please try to run the recovery again to factory settings and if that does not do the trick for you, please order recovery media from Hp by contacting HP phone support by following these steps:
to contact HP phone support:
