So I ordered recoverey disks from the retailers HP site leads to and after i place the second disk in it stops working at 81%. I dont know why this is happening and I dont know why its happening.

Hi:

I can't help with your immediate issue because it could be anything with those disks. However if you can't get it sorted out I noticed from your PC's specs that your notebook came with windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

Below is a potential workaround for you...

If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to DVD's for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.

Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.

Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.

The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.

Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

Hey this might be weird but I don't actually have any numbers on the label...I have no idea why. But it is all legit because I bought it from Curry's. :S

Also, thanks for getting back so quick.

You're welcome.

If you use the laptop on your lap a lot, then the product key probably has worn off, in which case you won't be able to use the workaround.

Hi,

I emailed the people and they sent me new CD's but the recover is still not working. Im not sure whether it is the CD's this time or the laptop. .

I have tried the recovery many times with the CD's and everytime at the stage where windows is supposed to load a message comes up saying the recovery attemot has failed.

It gave me  an option to save the Log and I have done so.

Do you know what the problem may be? If not, would it best be advised to contact HP about this problem directly or take it to some computer guy?

Hi:

Did you run the hard drive diagostics test in the BIOS?

Maybe the hard drive is bad, and that is why the recovery disks don't work.

If the hard drive test passes all phases, then I don't know what the problem could be.

Scroll down on the page and get Partition Wizard Bootable CD ISO and ImgBurn to burn the iso image to cd and boot from it.Do a Surface Test with it. If all passes, delete partitions, create one and format. Next try booting from Recovery again.

I did the short and long primary hard disk tests in diagnostics in the BIOS setup. The hard disk test passed.

@CherylGI did as you said. I did the surface test and no error was found.
I deleted all partitions and then created and formatted it.
I then tried the recovery discs again.

I went through the process of inserting disc 1 and then disc 2 and then the 'Application and Driver Recovery CD'. After this it said 'Recovery Preparation is complete'.

It then said that the computer will restart automatically during the rest of the process. After it restarted the page said 'hp Software Installation' and 'Software is being installed. When complete, your system may automatically restart. Please do not turn off your computer during the proccess.'

After loading for a bit, the computer restarted, it says 'Windows is loading files' and then a window titled ' Recovery Manager' appears. It says 'The recovery attempt has failed. Select one of the following buttons'. The options are 'Save Log', 'Details' and 'Retry'. I clicked on 'Save Log'. It then says ' The feature will collect information from your computer to aid HP in diagnosing the issue. Insert a USB hard drive with atleast 2MB of free space and click OK.' I have done so. I have attatched the log.

Please note, the computer reached this stage before following the steps you mentioned.

Another thing, when the computer is first turned on, and the 'hp Invent' logo appears, in the top left corner it says ' Serial Number Not Found.'.

I hope I have explained everything properly, if not I have pictures.

Hi:

I do not believe the recovery disks will work without finding a serial number in the BIOS.
