Hi.
How can I reduce the speed of processor? I have HP Pavilion dv6-1210ew Entertainment Notebook PC and on the site of the lengthening of working time on battery, I found such a sentence:
'Reduce the speed of your processor. The faster your computer works, the more quickly it uses up the supply of power. You can extend the charge of your battery by slowing down your processor's speed. Methods to reduce processor speed vary from model to model, and your manual should provide instructions for doing so.'
Unfortunately, I didn't find something about this in instructions. Waiting for help 🙂

The processor is set to downclock already. Both Intel and AMD have speedstepping features which slow the processor automatically at idle to stretch battery life. The single biggest thing you can do to stretch the battery is to dim the screen. There is a key combination that will do that. Fn and one of the function keys with a "sun" icon should do it.

So, how to reduce Your notebook cpu speed (temps):
(i) Power Options -> More power options,
(ii) YOUR plan -> Change settings,
(iii) Change advanced power settings
(iv) Processor power management -> Maximum processor state -> On Battery - xx percent, Plugged in - xx percent.
(vi) Save changes and close.

I was able to do this with windows 7, but have upgraded to windows 8, and there is nolonger an opportunity to reduce the processor speed percentage. Any ideas on windows 8.? My DV6 is overheating all the time and shutting down. i've tried all the other ideas about cleaning it out etc, the only thing that worked was slowing the processor down in windows 7. Not possible as far as i can see in windows 8, so i'm toast...

Hello davidsb.
I believe you can use the Power Options to set a maximum processor speed. This article has a little more information about power plans and the power options.
Have a great weekend.
