Hi Guys,
Get a blank screen on the first reboot after disabling the secure boot following the procedure in this link :-
Laptop is
Product- F5Y33UA#ABA
Model - 15-d017d
(Thats all the info on the back, no product line eg... pavillion, envy, etc)
Tried a hard reset but no joy. Looking at some other posts on this forum, it seems that the next logical step would be to reset the CMOS. Trouble is I can't find any documentation to do with this laptop anywhere, so am unsure of the procedure. If somebody can point me in the right direction of a maintanence guide / user manual it would be very much appreciated.
Cheers

BIOS may have got corrupt.
But, I don't see disabling secure boot to cause it. Did you update BIOS recently.
Is your HDD spinning in power on? Any beeps or blink of LED?
Restoring BIOS is the option left if nothing is coming up than just the purple screen, on starting up.
You've to try restoring many times,
I assume your system is installed with Win 8.1 x64,
Try flashing BIOS with a USB; you can download latest one from here to a empty USB, plug it in - try restore key press combination at the same time you power on the system.

Also try previous version also in similar method -

Since taking the motherboard out for trying resetting CMOS - better give it for repair to nearby tech.

Go through page 103 , I don't think it's an easy job - you've to take out the motherboard for that.
What are you trying to do by resetting?
Why are you disabling Secure boot?

Thanks very much for you swift response.
I disabled secure boot as the pc would not boot to any Linux live CD's I tried. All work fine on other computers. This is the section from the link I posted earlier-
Secure Boot Configuration is a new feature of the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) in BIOS 8 that helps a computer resist attacks and infection from malware. When your computer was manufactured, UEFI created a list of keys that identify trusted hardware, firmware, and operating system loader code. It also created a list of keys to identify known malware.
When Secure Boot is enabled, the computer blocks potential threats before they can attack or infect the computer. For example, Secure Boot can prevent your computer from starting from illegally copied CDs or DVDs that could harm the computer. Secure Boot does not lock out valid recovery discs or Windows discs.
I thought it might have been causing the problem.
The strange thing is, I never got to the last stage to confirm the BIOS change (although it is numbered 1. below, on the link it is stage 7. (copy and paste)
The Computer Setup Utility closes and the computer restarts. When the computer has restarted, the Operating System Boot Mode Change screen appears, prompting you to confirm the Boot Options change. Type the code shown on the screen, then press Enter to confirm the change and continue to Windows.
At present I just have a blank screen on boot, no error, no bios, no OS. Reading other posts resetting the CMOS has worked?
If you can think of any other options I will gladly give them a try. As you rightfully said, it looks like a bit of a nightmare job getting at the thing to reset it!
Thanks again

Are you able to boot into Windows otherwise?
Please Enable Legacy & Disable Secure boot and try booting from CD - change the boot device option F9, to boot from Live CD.
Please test your memory & HDD from bios:

When I switch on all I get is blank purple (ish) colour screen. Apart from the screen the only signs of life is there is a light on the wifi (f12) key. I inserted a CD, it is spinning but no change on the screen. Pressing any key on the keyboard also has no effect (I.e entering the Bios)
I looked at this link-

Was hoping to restore but no joy.
Would disabling the secure boot disable the display driver?
Thanks again

That was my thought, I tried it and nothing on the external display.
Since I pressed f10 when I originally changed the bios (to save the disable the secure boot) I can't boot to anything. Just this purpleish display. All this seems to be connected to disable secure boot?
All very odd
