I'm going to hold off a week or so to see if Microsoft or HP comes out with a fix, and to confirm those who have gone this route with reverting and re-upgrading via the Media Creation Tool have truly kicked the sleep/shutdown issues. At that point, I guess I ought to give it a try.
No need to do that, I guess I figured out which driver exactly is causing problem. Guess what? Its not any Intel HD driver, nor Nvidia driver, nor Wireless button driver. To surprise, its the Realtek Audio drivers.
Yesterday, after reading success stories of re4med and many others, starting from sat3rn, I too decided to go back to Windows 8.1 update all drivers and then upgrade to windows 10, but using the media creation tool. Now I compared Windows 8.1 drivers with Windows 10 drivers. The versions of Windows 10 drivers looked more new to me. Hence I installed Windows 10 drivers in Windows 8.1 and except for Intel HD driver, all Windows 10 drivers were able to get installed in Windows 8.1.
But then, the same shutdown/restart/sleep problem occured, but now in Windows 8.1------>from which I infered that one of the drivers of Windows 10, that I installed is actually causing problems.
Hence I again clean installed Windows 10. Then I did the following:
Next was to connect to the Internet, Now WIndows was activated within 15 seconds, now the next step is to set your intenet as metered connection. An now the next step was to block all Windows updates using this tool.
Next was to install drivers manually.
1-->Installed Nvidia drivers and Intel HD drivers for windows 10, restart after Intel HD drivers as instructed.
2-->Installed fingerprint driver, HP 3D ProtectGuard driver, then Synaptics touchpad and then rebooted.
Left my laptop on for 2 hours, with some songs in the background, came back to this forum in search of permanent solution, but not got any, (just a workaround that revert to WIn 8.1 and then upgrade) then rebooted--->healthy reboot, no issues.
3-->Allowed bluetooth drivers and HP Wireless button driverto get installed manually using the above tool and windows update.
Checked this forum to see for any solutions due to my impatience snd then again left my laptop for 2 hours with songs in the background, and then rebooted--->no issues again
4-->Installed Intel Management Interface driver, and AHCI drivers(Intel Rapid storage drivers) for windows 10 rebooted as instructed, and after reboot installed my personal apps like vlc, Visual C++ package, MS Office, which took around 45-50 minutes, then restarted--->no issues.
5-->Installed Realtek audio drivers for Windows 10.(Beats audio for my laptop). Continued with further installation of personal apps like Ccleaner, WIse365 registry cleaner etc. Now it was late night 2:30 am,, time to sleep,, left my laptop open with lovely songs in the background from "8tracks" app in a low volume and, myself, slept.
Woke up at 7 am, did an immediate rebbot--->reboot was unhealthy, as before, as per the complaints. I thought may be there be something wrong with this driver. And then I read Faizzals' comment when I again came back to this forum, upon typing the commands he mentioned, I got Realtek drivers under the System. I thought uninstalling this driver completely may work, but lets try to install with Windows 8.1 version, and that too a bit older. Uninstalled the Windows 10 version completely and installed the Windows 8.1 version in my Windows 10.
Rebooted immediately, checked with "powercfg -requests" command and its shown none under all and again left my laptop with music on my 8tracks app(in my laptop only).
Just right now(after 3 hours), before making this comment, I made a reboot and this time the reboot was healthy.
Hence i conclude that the Realtek Audio driver for Windows 10 is at fault. To check which one is at fault, you can check it in cmd by typing the command "powercfg -requests".
Meanwhile, I recommend all users to install only the MISSING drivers(error as shown in device manager) of WINDOWS 8.1 ONLY and NOT OF WINDOWS 10, for the time being, except for Intel HD driver, the windows 8.1 version of which CANNOT be installed in Windows 10. Try to avoid the driver installations from Windows Update as well.
I have no idea, when the driver manufacturers like Realtek, or IDT or Intel will fix them. But it looks like it will take some time. I got a feeling that this may take around 2 months.
P.S. We faced no such issues/seldom issues in the beta versions(Insider Preview versions) because at that time, none of the drivers for Windows 10 were released, except for a beta driver which was being delivered through Windows update. And rest of all drivers either we manually installed the Windows 8.1 versions or even Windows Update was delivering Windows 8.1 version drivers in the Insider Preview versions.

@Sat3rn wrote:Sibu16 whats your laptop model pavillion15 or 17,envy etc
Mine is HP ENVY Touchsmart 15 k102tx. My problem seems to be fixed even with clean installation of Windows 10(NO UPGRADE), but by installing the Windows 8.1 drivers rather than Windows 10 drivers(most of which are now released by the manufacturers), even though I have installed Windows 10 drivers for few ones like HP Wireless button driver and Synaptics driver.

Sibu16,look it seems to be working on some models and is not working on some version like pavillion dv6 and pavillion 17 etc but it seems to be working on SOME pavilion 15 and eNvy model ....the solution doesn't appear to be the same for all laptops ( i dont know why) if Dan52 has a pavillion 15 or envy he should totally try the media creation tool method (whats the hurt in trying since many people got it fixed using the same method).

There is abosolutely no problems in him trying to revert back and Upgrade using the media creation tool. But as, he is in Windows 10 right now, why to go a lengthy way. If he gets it fixed just by uninstalling a driver or replacing it by a Windows 8.1 version, then why to go a lengthy way.
I guess even in your method, as you have updated all drivers in Windows 8.1 and then upgraded to Windows 10, your Realtek driver/IDT driver or anything which was causing issue in a clean install in Windows 10, is already installed and not missing. For some drivers, even if an older version is present, it won't update the driver until you manually do it, even if you given Windows full permission to update all the drivers. For e.g I have an update of the following drivers, marked in red boxes, which are actually newer than which is installed(I checked the versions by installing them at first but later I uninstalled them), but still it is not updating until I manually do it in device manager.(After getting through, I have revoked the permissions I have restricted earlier to Windows).
But still, if his issue is not solved by uninstalling the driver, he can downgrade and again upgrade.
But downgrading and upgrading is not actually a solution, even though it is a workaround for all. Okay, now what would people do, if somehow they run into trouble and are unable to use their Clean PC feature? Will you recommend them to downgrade to Windows 8.1 and then upgrade using the tool? Currently, it is working because, most of the drivers which you have, even after upgrading to Win 10 are versions of Windows 10.

First of all sibu16 that clean PC feature is nothing related to BIOS....ok? I didnt installed drivers from windows 8.1 i only installed the BIOS DRIVER which is 70% the issue in these types of problems (shutdown, sleep etc). And speaking of realtek driver you just installed i just installed it from my hp support assistant it only fixed some mic problems with cortana nothing else it was dated 13 august

Second of all when you download using the media creation tool the latest drivers are already baked with the windows 10 so you dont really need to download any driver EXCEPT the bios driver cause thats the only driver that does not gets upgraded cause it has to be updated seperately

Well, I don't know why are you relating Clean PC featute to BIOS in the 1st step? I asked, what if people run into problems with their OS booting up due to some mistakes which users might do, for e.g. installing an unauthorized software which changes windows kernel files. Yes there are many, for e.g. THIS TOOL changes the windows system files and then your Clean PC feature won't work, if you are on a GPT partition.
Now what will you recommend to them, install Windows 8.1 and then upgrade to Windows 10??
Well, it was Realtek driver in my case(HP Envy). It can be different for you. For some users, it was Intel Updater software.
You can check by typing the following command in cmd in administrative previleges:
powercfg -requests.
Well, I have also side by side clean installed Windows 10 on my ex-roomie's HP Pavillion 15 p206tx who already had the latest BIOS (F.42 Rev A) since ages, but he too was facing problems. But upon installing windows 8.1 drivers instead of windows 10,I see no problems in his laptop after conducting a shutdown after nearly 4 hours and yes, it HP pavillion.
P.S.: If you want to get to the root of a problem and solve it, you should know, which driver is creating problem and not just by re-installing an Old OS and then upgrading to new OS. That may be a workaround, but not a solution
