I have a Pavilion dv6000 with Vista 32bit which needs a restore, but I would like to take the oportunity to install an SSD. Although I've seen some stores with models that indicate "compatible" with my machine, I want to know the specs of what I need.

Is there a limit for the capacity of the drive?

Also, if HP have options, how may I see them?

Hi:

I would do a search in the search box in the forum.  Maybe "SSD in dv6000" or something.

I have yet to find a thread where anyone got an SSD to work in a dv6000 series notebook.

HP did not offer any SSD's in the dv6000/dv9000 series notebooks.

Already tried searching and nothing specific, most answers are regarding newer machines for which HP already have options.

Cool, thanks! I'll be reading those and see what's the best approach.

From an overview, this is what I plan: Backup my data, restore the machine, then clone to the SSD. Once I make sure it works, I will upgrade to Windows 7.

I hope Windows 7 makes much better use of the hardware.

You're very welcome.

As I said, those links show that a SSD doesn't work in a dv6000.

Don't get your hopes up.

So, did it work?

Can't work on that; still on Christmas expenses and car brakes...that hit me hard. I may try installing Windows 8 later.

I wanted to do the same thing with my dv6000. Add SSD, reload Windows 7, etc but now looks like I might just have to get new HD vs. SSD.

I did want to mention I tried Windows 8 and hated it! Switched back to Windows 7 which is much smoother I feel.

I had the same problem when trying to load windows 8 on an SSD on a DV6000.  However, Linux installed just fine and the entire drive was usable.  Maybe it's a driver issue with the windows installer.
