Hello, my dv9730us laptop takes too long to startup and once I can see the desktop I still have to wait a few seconds before I can do anything at all. It's like it freezes up a few seconds.
This is a recent re-install and I haven't installed much anything else. I've ran automatic update and have installed all the available updates. I've only installed 2 additional programs, CCleaner and Winrar.
I would like to know where I may find a list of the services that I can safely remove/stop. I've did a Google search for these services and have found a lot of answers, but I want to be sure I get the correct answer and is why I'm asking in the HP Support Forums.
If anyone has any other suggestions on how I may increase the performance of this laptop I would be very thankful!
Here are my laptop Specifications.
Model HP Pavilion dv9700 Notebook PC
Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) with Service Pack 2 Version 6.0.6002 Build 6002

BIOS Version/Date Hewlett-Packard F.2A, 2/22/2008

Thank you very much and I really do appreciate you taking the time to help me!

Services or Software?
Services here, pick your OS on the left side
Here is a Startup Program database, you can look up your startup programs to see what they are

I was wondering about both. Services and Programs. There just seems to be way too many services and programs unnecessarily running in the background. I am thinking this is affecting my overall performance. Of course, I am using the Vista Aero theme and this could be a big factor as well. But it really doesn't make any sense as to why Vista would even be installed on this computer if it can't handle it correctly. Plus, I have 3 Gigs of ram!
Anyway, thanks for such a timely response and I will look the info over that you provided. I am always open for any other suggestions on boosting my performance.
Anyone have the same laptop as I and have it running great? How did you get it running so great?
Thanks again, everyone!

Services don't affect performance as much as it does memory usage, unnecessary startup programs can affect performance.
As far as Aero goes, try disabling Transparency, this may help sluggishness.

AV software can also be the cause of sluggishness, you might consider removing (uninstall) your current brand and switch to MSE, it is low on resource usage and best of all it is Free.

Defrag the hard drive if it has not been done lately. May take some time if it has never been done, do this once a month.
