Hello,

my fan on my laptop is constantly working. The laptop is new (2 months old) and has no dust or temperature issues. I saw there is a setting in the bios to disable "fan always on". My laptop has intel i7 6700HQ and Nvidia GTX 950 4GB. Should i disable the fan always on? What will happen exactly? And will i have any temperature issues after doing this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

You're welcome :generic:

The premiss behind the 'Fan always on' setting is that it minimizes the degree to which the hardware components expand and contract.  However, when set to disabled, the fan will still start when required.

If you really want to disable this feature, just doing so when on the battery ( when not running anything demanding ) is probably the best idea.

Hi,

It's best to leave the setting for 'fan always on' to enabled, which is the default for HP notebooks - one of the main factors that determine the lifespan of a notebook is heat and the number of heat cycles ( heating up/cooling down ) that the hardware goes through.  The 'fan always on' setting will generally give you the lifespan.

Thank you very much for your reply. But the fan is super annoying!! I disabled it to check it out and the temperatures are ok but i don't know how it is configured so it might not start when it is always needed thus creating the problems you said. Maybe i could disable it some nights? Will that create problems? To disable and enable it sometimes?

Also maybe i could disable it when it is on battery since i never game or do anything demanding when it is on battery.

Thank you in advance.
