Shutdown after 2-3 seconds after startup

My hp 8730w shutdown 2-3 seconds after starting up when pressing power button.

The fan comes on and the lights in the powerpanel lights up and then it shuts down.

No beeps comming at all and I tried hard reset without any luck.

Any ideas what to do or try next ?

Hello Theamigo,

When turning your computer on it shuts down after a couple seconds, is that correct? I will try to assist you with this issue.

Have you ever cleaned the vents of any debris or dust with canned air? Could possibly be an overheating issue.

Hey, thanks a lot for helping!

Yes i used caned air to clean the fans and ventilation, it was a little dusty, but unfortunally it did not solve the problem...

Any other ideas to do/try?

I guess the motherboard cant be broken since the cpu fan starts up fine, so it must get power from the motherboard...

It lights up normal when hitting the start button after 1 sec the cpu fan starts up as normal.. but after 1 second more it just turns off, maybe its some kind of fuse... but i really dont know...

Try removing the battery and powering up with only the AC adapter connected, to see if there is any difference.

When you clean the vents, did you break down the entire computer to clean the CPU fan?

I have taken the keyboard away and air cleaned all carefully...

I wonder if it can be "yellow light of death" like on ps3 machines...
So maybe the cpu cooling paste is gone or bad, i dont know.

U have more ideas to try?

It looks to be a multitude of different things, possibly the motherboard, CPU, cooing fan, needing more thermal paste as you mentioned. The best advice I can give would be to take the computer to a technician locally to have them examine it. Or because this computer is considered a business/commercial it might be still in warranty, just the warranty check tool to confirm
