I have noticed using twin sets of SODIMM DDR3L 12800 for my HP Pavilion dv6
that a change in relay timings results in major mouse and keyboard lags.
While both sets (and actually I have tried this with tested NAME BRAND ram
from four different manufacturers so I know its the timing not faulty ram....
I have seen that with timing 11-13-b4 or 11-13-b3 there is major lag with the mouse and keyboard
BUT with timing 11-12-f4 there is NO LAG and the computer functions nominally
from what I understand, this should not be the case as the most important number is CL=11.
when one buys RAM for upgrade say from crucial or kingston, do we now have to be careful of the second set of timings
so that we dont have this keyboard and mouse lag?
i have noticed many other forum entries and there has been no good solution to this
mainly because most have been focusing on drivers and settings for the mouse/keyboard sensitvity....
I believe that many of the people with mouse and keyboard lags may have upgraded or swapped out memory and the result is the keyboard lag/mouse lag.
would love a discussion and any explanation if you have one.... thank you!

I think you just have 2 different sets of memory and one is compatible and one is not. Can you provide the full model number of the laptop and the full description of the memory modules? You are absolutely right. The numbers other than CL=11 are not even really timings but are internal descriptors of the module by the memory manufacturer so I am not thinking they explain the mouse and keyboard lag.

As for the faulty ram. Actually I have five sets of ram pulled from other machines... Or ten sticks total. Brands are nanya and samsung which bear the 11-12-xx and skhynix (yes i know its the same as hynix )and older set of two when they just were named hynix that bears the 11-13-xx. And finally elpida also bearing 11-13-xx
As for faulty modules.. These were all pulled from working Lenovo and dell laptops ... To make room for gskill ripjaw and crucial 8gb x2 kits.
And as is my practice I tested each set after install by using both hp 's diagnostics in thorough or extended testing mode which tests mobo hd video sound etc including ram ... I am doing taxes now so I just let it run in the background ... When I encountered the mouse lag with the samsung set I decided to do a swap with the hynix and boom no mouse lag... So then ... Knowing it shouldn't make any difference and suspecting faulty modules... I ran a memtest86 from a USB key boot drive. Again no errors on samsung. Now a total of four and a half hours for hp dish and 2 hours for memtest.
I then put in the nanya ram which bore the same timings as the samsung ram and boom... Mouse lag again.:(. Now statistically the chance of faulty ram again is super super high but I decided to test again. Oh... And I also ran the memtest on the Lenovo which I pulled both samsung sticks from in the first place and it also came up clean.
Popped elpida in and no problem at 11-13...bit I didn't run memtests agai on elpida ... I did run a rammon by passmark to see what timings were on each module as installed ... They read 11-11-11
Since I know cas latency is the only number that should matter and
I have used many hours now .... I then and only then proceeded to post my query.

Because frankly i am puzzled and it goes against everything I know about installing and using sodimms dating back to 2000 when I did my first of about 500 memory upgrades at IBM. The only thing I can think is the true solution is something about the sodimm architecture may be similar between those designated 11-13-xx perhaps the ram chips soldered on to each stick are from the same manufacturer even though they ended up being sold under different assemblers ... hynix and elpida use the same ram chips ... Samsung and nanya same ... Micron is/and crucial... Etc... And that architecture not timing numbers is the real difference. By the way they all at 1r not a mix of 1r and 2r.
