@STEVEKAY wrote:If I uninstall the driver, it is reinstalled during the boot up. As I recall that was the mistake I made after the initial windows 10 upgrade. The original fix worked only by restarting AFTER v.9 install, not before,
Understood, but for whatever reason, I and several others (and hopefully now you too!) initially got an error when trying to install v9/v10 over v11, but got it to work after uninstalling v11, restarting to allow Windows to automatically reinstall v11, and then installing v9/v10 over it. Seems odd, but it has done the trick for some users.
@STEVEKAY wrote:thanks. I believe it did fix the problem. I will know after allowing it to be in sleep mode for couple of hours. Thanks again for the help.
Glad to hear it! 🙂

I'm not sure if this is going to help anyone, or not...
I own an HP XW8600 Workstation with dual Xeon processors. I upgraded from WIN 7 Ultimate to WIN 10 Pro and the machine has not gone to sleep on its own since then. Under WIN 7, everything was hunky-dory and I never had an issue. After scouring the internet and trying all possible solutions, including those listed on these pages, I've not been able to resolve the problem, that is, until this morning. I do not know how or why this is, but I accidentally discovered that when the volume control (in the taskbar) is muted, the machine sleeps like a baby and wakes accordingly. When the volume is not muted, it simply will not go to sleep unless I hit the "sleep" button or shut it down. Very peculiar!

Brand new spectre x360 out of box with windows 10 preinstalled, downgrading not an option. Livid that they can sell me a broken laptop. They must know about this!
Same as previous poster with win 10 preinstalled. Can't get any of the workarounds to work to get version 9.5 installed. Just says my device is not supported when I try to install version 9.5/10. Tried uninstalling v11 and getting windows to resinstall to no avail. Tried manually installing that driver too but doesn't work!
Best I could come up with is to uninstall the Intel Management Engine in programs and features. The management interface has now become an unknown device in device manager. I seem to have a functional sleep mode. It sleeps when I close the lid and tell it to in the start menu and wakes on opening the lid or pressing a key. Goodness knows what features I have disabled without the MEI but I seem better off at present until an updated MEI fixes the problem. Just hoping windows doesn't reinstall the MEI because it can't autodetect what it is!

If it does, you should be able to uninstall it again and then use the Show or Hide Updates Troubleshooter to block Windows from automatically reinstalling it.

It's gotta be more than the Intel MEI driver. I have the same issues wth a Probook 6460b that cannot even run drivers newer than 7. Can't install versions 8, 9 or 10, let alone 11. I have tried the USB power solution, and no go. Resetting yo factory defaults doesn't help, and toggling on or off any of the Intel options in BIOS does not fix the issue. I'm thinks that it may be a hardware problem because disconnecting the second HDD that I placed in the CD drive slot fixes the issue. Nonetheless, this problem did not exist under Win7 or 8. So I still blame Microsoft.

Finally, I had to totally disable the MEI in Settings>Device Manager>System Devices>Intel Management Engine Interface>Disable. My Probook 6460b shuts down, sleeps, hibernates and wakes up just fine, although I can only wake it up using the power button.
I have seen no issues regarding performance after disabling the MEI.
