I tried that entire sequence which includes with the upgrade to MEI driver.  It did not work for me because when I went into Show or Hide Updates, the MEI driver was not even listed as being available to hide.  What finally worked for me was to turn off the parameter labeled "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" on Control Panel>>Power (in search box)>>Choose what the power buttons do.  After having the problem for a week and trying everything recommended by HP (none of which worked), unchecking that parameter has finally solved the problem.  I found it via a couple of YouTube videos and haven't had any problems since.

SOLVED

I have found the soloution for those who are still suffering this problem. This has worked on my HP Pavillion 15 n096ea with win10 (win8 pre-installed)

All you have to do is reinstall windows 10 keeping all your personal files

Do this by going onto settings, update and security, recover, reset this PC- Then if you still want win10 and your personal files, pick the first option which says that

This process takes about 20 min altogther (well for me it did)

This process does get rid of your personal applications though. Obvioussly you will have to download it after the reset.

Good luck!!!

I just downloaded the new MEI version 11 driver (dated 25 Oct 2015) and it solved the sleep/wakeup problem on my Envy 17-t.  I would suggest replacing the current instructions to move the version 10 (which wouldn't load on my system) with an update to this driver.

If you just installed it, I'd recommend testing it out for a while; unfortunately, you may find the issue resurfaces.

Version 11 has been the culprit for many users here, with v9 and v10 functioning properly for those whose systems are compatible with it.

For whatever reason, HP keeps updating the dates on the drivers on its site, but Intel did not actually release a new MEI driver on October 25.  The most recent MEI driver version (11.0.0.1173) was published on October 7.

WHOA, they turned my solution into an official HP support document!

Glad they're listening... though it kinda seems like they should've given those of us who figured out this solution for them a bit of credit on that page!  😛

This issue is has not been solved download outdated drivers to coverup a problem with a new OS like windows 10 is nopt the final answer. If we carry on doing that every time there is a problem with a new Operating System we will be degrading the System instead of gradually improving it.   The problem appears to be with Intel management engine interface driver and its compatbility wth windows 10 in some Laptops or PC's using the Version 11.0 of this driver.  Intel should be coming up with some answers. To further complicate the issue the problem is intermittent, you think you have solved it only to have it pop up again. We need a cohesive testing regime using both old and new MEI Drivers over a period  beyond that in which we have experienced this issue so far.  This is an important problem as nobody is prapred to stae that continually forcing a complte shutdown will not harm your Computer. I will state that it does appear at the moment that this Intel Driver is the problem but have been here before.

Great job (fix) DanG82. I now even have the blinking sleep mode on my power button (HP Envy 14). You really helped as I had replaced the HD with a Intel SSD and did a clean install of Windows 10, and didn't know who the culprit was.

Kudos, DanG82

Just an aside, I did not see (it did not list) the option of hiding the 8.1 drivers during the Show Hide Update Troubleshooter, but I went through all the steps as best I could with the end result of Sleep Mode working 🙂

You're welcome.  Glad to hear it!

It (the Intel driver) does appear to be the problem with failure to power off on some HP PCs (certainly on my HP ProBook 4520s with i3 circa 2012). When and how will we know it has been fixed (I have upgraded twice to Win10 and reverted twice back to Win7 Pro, in frustration at this and other bugs). Who (HP or Intel) should be solving this.
