SOLVED. At least it still works after a reboot. I downloaded the latest centrino adapter software on the intel website. Then reloaded version 3 of the mouse suite 2.3. Still doesn't make up for two months hassle and numerous attempts to get it working!

I installed the latest Centrino Wireless adapter driver and the latest WiFi mouse Update 3 and no luck. I threw the **bleep** thing in the garbage and now using a Logitech Blue Tooth Mouse that works great.

I worked on this problem for two days and had enough. Thanks for all of the post, but no luck for me. I bought the laptop in March 2012, a Pavilion Dv7. So I know it is not Hardware issues as posted by the "HP Employee".

I wouldn't pay $1 for this mouse, it has been nothing but trouble.

I  have Windows 7 installed and it still doesn't work. softap error

Hey guys, I had exactly the same problem; after restarting my notebook the mouse wouldn't connect again.

I tried everything; restarting pc, reinstalling hp mouse suite, resetting wireless adapter, disabling and enabling wireless network, and finally even system restore. None of this made a difference, everytime i tried to pair the mouse with my laptop the message "SoftAP not available" would pop up.

Then I tried something really simple. I disconnected the wireless network (Nota Bene: I didn't disable the wifi or anything, I just disconnected my internet). Started up the HP mouse suite and voila! It worked.

Some time later I had the same problem but again it was easily solved by connecting the mouse before the actual internet.

I hope this works for you too.

Hi there, HP-support-people!

I bought a HP WiFi Mouse x7000, just a few days ago, and i have already experienced the first problems, such as speed-moving, barely without touching the mouse, and also the famous SoftAP-not-available. So, i looked through your support sites, and found the cmd-command "netsh wlan stop hostednetwork", and typed it in. The cmd told me that it worked, but when i wrote in the other command "netsh wlan start hostednetwork", it could not turn it on again.

I began looking through some different sites, and did a little research on my own. What giant mistake i made -.-

My first though was that SoftAP, was an application, but when i looked more into it, it became clear to me that it wasn't. The extruded version of SoftAP is "software acces point", and this made me think, that it had to be some sort of device inside my PC. I was right.

Opening up my device manager, and looking at the Network-section, it seemed that one of network-card devices was having a problem. I right-clicked it, and it told me that it was deactivated. So, of course i activated it again, ans now my mouse was fully functioning again.

So, to sum up:

  1. Open up the cmd as an admin (ctrl+shift+enter)
  2. Type in "netsh wlan stop hostednetwork" and press enter.
  3. Open up your device manager.
  4. Look out for any "problems" or "anomalies" under the network section
  5. Activate any deactivated devices, and you should be good to go.

Hope this helps.

Best regards, Nikowtch :generic:

When you connect it, and use the pairing-guide, try not to touch the mouse, until the blinking stops. This works for me.

I really want this fixed.  I bought the laptop and mouse together from HP.com and they worked together until a month ago.  I called the support line.  ** Advice - - Never, Ever do this.  I spent 3.5 hours with India and they wanted me to hard boot the computer (Months of photos and work gone?) they told me to go buy an external hard drive and call back tomorrow...  I called back and said no I think there is a miscommunication.  2 more hours and they decided to send me a new wi fi mouse.  Now I have 2 identical mice and the same problem.  Called back and1.25 hours later and no resolution except I know how to go through the call system pretty quick.  I finally hung up and found this page.  I have tried the DOS thing, the internet options thing and the service pack thing but I still have the problem.  Help?  What did I miss?

I have an HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC

The netsh stop and start did solve my problem when I ran it as administrator.  It did not do anything if I did not run as administrator.  It worked fine for a few weeks and then crapped out again. I finally decided I had spent enough time trying to get it to run and i through the original one and the additional one HP sent in the drawer and starred to use a mouse with a mini USB dongle that I just leave inserted in the laptop. My advice is to go to a regular mouse or, if you unit has built in Bluetooth you can use a Bluetooth mouse. What really disappoints me is the lack of official responses from HP regarding this issue. I have been loyal to HP, only using their PC's and Printers until this fiasco.  I have subsequently purchased one Acer desk Unit and two Acer laptops.

Hi everybody

I had the same problem.

Here's a solution

deinstall all mouse suits
go to the device manager
make an automatic driver update of your Wifi adapter
then just download from the hp the wifi mobile mouse driver
Install, follow all steps
and now the mouse does works

good succeed
