Hey, I have an HP 15-d035dx Notebook PC.
Lately I've been having issues with the sound, which I believe to be temperature related and I wasn't sure whether to put this in the audio or hardware board.
Anyway, at least once a day I have to restart because any sound output-- videos, skype calls, music-- beging to stutter severely and sound how I can only describe as "robotic." After restarting, it goes back to normal.
As you can imagine, this is very frustrating and I have no idea what to do. There are no error messages, the system just begins to lag and affected programs become unresponsive.
Usually when this happens, I notice that my device is unusually hot. Ever since I purchased it, I have never heard or felt air moving in the vents so I'm not sure if the fan is functional. I'm afraid to take it apart to make sure in case that voids the warranty, but I suspect excessive heat might be damaging the components related to this issue.
Any ideas? If it helps the default sound device is Realtek High Definition Audio

Hi,
Based on the information provided, it does seem like the fan has malfunctioned. If you can't hear it at all ( you should ), then your best option as your under warranty is contacting support, they should be able to help you with that.

Hello @RyanSF,
I see that you're having an issue with the sound that you believe may be caused by overheating in your notebook. I will try to assist you with this.
It is very likely that the audio problems could be related to the overheating. Generally overheating of any computer will cause other issues to arise.
As a starting point in the troubleshooting, I would suggest this document:
Reducing Heat Inside the PC to Prevent Overheating.
Make sure you follow all the steps and any sub documents it may link to.
*some steps may have you opening up the notebook, as you're worried about the warranty and voiding it, I would suggest contacting phone support: HP Technical Support, North America 1-800-474-6836. For all other regions click here.
Let me know how this all goes and if you notice any improvements with the notebook afterwards. If the sound issues remains we can tackle it at that time.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

Thanks, I have followed the steps on that page such as cooling the room, blowing out the vents and even installing coolsense, but audio tearing is only continuing to get worse over time-- especially while multitasking. And I still don't notice any activity from the fan.
Like I said, I'm still covered by warranty so I'm considering having the fan and sound card replaced if I can, but only if I know for sure that it's my only option.
All of my sound drivers are up to date as well.
