Laptop Model: HP Pavilion dv6-7010us

Operating System: Windows 7 64bit

 

I updated all the audio drivers and I still get a "buzzing" or "hissing" sound.

It does sound like a hardware issue. You have a 1 yr warranty, phone HP for service.1-800-474-6836

 

If you are still within the store's return period, usually 14-30 days, you might just take it back for exchange.

Hi,

 

Try the following.

 

Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

 

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp57501-58000/sp57966.exe

 

When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.

 

When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.

 

Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.

 

Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if the audio issue is any better.

Sadly It didn't work. The buzzing sound seems to be coming from the right speaker only, closest to the ac adapter port.Also when i use headphones, I also hear the buzzing sound.

Hi,

 

It's possible that this is a hardware issue, so as a further test to rule out a software problem, try the following.

 

1.  Create a bootable Ubuntu CD - a guide on creating an Ubuntu CD and the download can be found Here.

 

2.  When created, follow the guide on the link below to Try Ubuntu.

 

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/try-ubuntu-before-you-install

 

The 'Try Ubuntu' option runs the OS from the CD without the need to install on your HDD.  If this runs Ok ( it will be slow running from a CD ), check whether you still get the same 'hissing' noise from the speakers.

Ubuntu will fit on a blank CD, or you can create it on a USB flash drive as described Here.

With Ubuntu, I only hear the "hissing sound" slighty than that of using Windows7. It seems that the hissing sound occurs mostly when watching internet videos etc youtube. Sometimes you can hardly ever hear it with some mp3 files with windows 7 but it is very annoying when it does happen and funny thing is that I only have this laptop for only a week now.

Also the "hissing" sound gets worse when the volume is increased and it started making this noise the first day i got this laptop :Crying:
