My DV 2000 laptop touch panel's mute button turns on and off automatically with frequet MUTE/UNMUTE actions. Also the volume bar drops down as if it is manually done. All this is continuing randomly without any pause. I tried to recover the driver through system recovery, but it never work.
Also when video played, it gets paused+muted automatically at several ocassions. My OS is XP, SP3.
Please help to recover the issue.

Hi,
Try the following.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Any change?

Dear Mr David,
I re-formatted my HP DV2000 notebook a day before with system restore and the sudden volume mute problem revived again. I tried with your last technique to open battery and press power button for 30secs, but it failed this time. Moreover I am unable to enter BIOS setup as told by you by pressing ESC button. It is entering to a page asking NOTEBOOK HARDDRIVE or ENTER SETUP, nothing else. Adding more pain to the issue, the QUICKPLAY is opening now and then while I am working without asking to do so. Kindly provide a solution to the SPEAKERS MUTE AUTOMATICALLY and QUICKPLAY sudden launch poblem.
Also please assist me how to roll back audio drivers for my notebook.
Please help with a solution

Hello Subhadeep. I understand you're having some issues with your sound.
When you press the ESC button during boot and are prompted with the option of "ENTER SETUP" you want to choose "ENTER SETUP." This will take you to the BIOS and you should be able to perform the other steps suggested by DavidPK.
Here are the steps for rolling back your driver.
- Go to your Device Manager.
- Expand the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section.
- Right click on your sound card and select "Properties."
- Navigate to the "Driver" tab.
- Select "Roll Back Driver."
- After it completes you should reboot your computer.
- Post the result.
The QUICKPLAY menu opens when the computer detects some form of media. For example, if I put a music CD in my drive the window pops up and says "D: Music CD - Umphrey's McGee" or something similar. What does yours say? This will be very helpful for determining the cause.
Have a great day!
Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"
