Woah,
i just sat down and took 20 Minutes to write detailed instructions with screenshots in how to do it.
But HP deleted my Post for beeing "SPAM"?!
They are not helping in any way and preventing us of helping each other...

Thank you Akkrish,
meanwhile HP also reached out to me and reactivated the original Post - They said it was blocked by an automatic SPAM Filter.
- You can see the original Post with Pictures on Page 7: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Spectre-x360-2018-gem-cut-adjust-keyboard-bac...

I found another way!!!
I followed this guide to install precision drivers to deactivate the touchpad while having a mouse connected.
The day after while I was watching a film I noticed the keyboard was on! What a surprise, 20 minutes into the film and it was on.
I bursted into tears...😭
After a brief moment i got my **bleep**s together.. Nice, the way i wanted it. Thanks Lenovo 🤣

Can you please also put me in touch with "the team that handles this" I'd love to understand why HP have not included this as a feature - this team should be able to respond to customer queries.
Literally the whole point of having a backlit keyboard is to be able to see keys in the dark: if they time our after 30s how are you meant to find them?It makes no sense from a design perspective. Do they even to user testing?Would love to know what your product development process is.
I wish I'd realised that the laptop didn't have this feature sooner so that I could return it.

So I am currently trying to escalate this with HP. This has gone on TOO LONG! This thread is nearly 2 years old with hundreds of people involved. They would be the tip of the iceberg.
I want to get some numbers on an online petition to demonstrate to them that they have lots of customers who think this is a problem that needs to be fixed.
Please join me in my Battle to make this "little" problem a BIG deal!

Vote with your wallet, I did. Send mine back.
Capitalism only works as a quality control mechanism if you use the tools. Buying stuff is your vote. Sending stuff back or boycotting is a tool in capitalism.
Convincing companies is hard if you just buy the junk that they churn out... defaming with reviewers and other influencers might work. They need to feel pain t come into action. No money is the most pain you as a consumer can inflict.

I signed the petition. Thanks for doing that. I'm on day 3 three with my new Spectre and thought initially that I can live with the keyboard timeout. After using it these past few days, I've found that every time I go to type something my first action has to be to tap the trackpad or a function key just to get the keyboard to light up so I can see things. It's already getting old.
I'm at the point where I'm thinking of returning it.

I also signed the petition. I just picked up the 13.5" Spectre x360 color copper from BestBuy, it also shares the same issue with the backlight keyboard turning off. I really really like this 13.5" laptop it is leaps and bounds more intuitive to use then my 2013 Mackintosh Book Pro 13" late model.

With the capitalism, HP have all but said they are happy to take the laptop back and refund it but that's not the answer I was after. I am wondering if the higher ups aren't getting the data, or that maybe like me its super annoying but no causing people to immediately refund or not buy.
