Hi everyone,

I have a HP Pavillion DV6 7031TX that I brought brand new of **bleep** Smith about 5 months ago (early November or December).

It had been great, no hardware issues, except there is a stiff left hidge.

The left hidge when moved slowly makes cracking noises, I am not sure if it has gotten worse during the time I have had it, but I am closley monitoring it and try to move the screen fast and make large ajustements instead of minior ajustments to the screen angle should i need to, it is not to annoying, but I was wondering how serious the problem actually is and if there is a easy fix (I am one day worried I/a friend will accidentally move the screen slightly and the stiff hidge will crack the screen).

I would prefer not to have to take it back to **bleep** Smith as they do not sell any model similar and I have already taken it back once (on the 2nd day I brought it) for the battery not charging properly.

Is it possible to losen the hidge and if so how?

Any other feedback and/or comments on the situation would be great.

Thanks,

Jackson C

PS Im not sure if this is the right place to put this thread.

Hello Jacksoncropp,

Most HP repairs take 4-6 business  days once they are received by the service center. Generally it is 2-3 days shipping both ways.  Each situation is different though, but that is around the norm.

Hope that information is helpful.

Have a good day

Is it just the left hinge that is stiff?

Let us know how it goes!

Yes, just the left one.
Thanks, Jackson

Have you contacted HP invent to report the issue and to have the unit repaired?

Having one hinge loose and one stiff, you are putting stress on the LCD and it could break.  If your unit is still in warranty please call HP Invent at 1800 474 6836.

You may have to take the top panel off and check for any spilled substances that might have gotten caught in the hinge. If there's nothing then a little WD40 might solve your problems.

Hi, thanks for all your replies

I brought it in New Zealand.  Should I contact HP directly? or the retailer?

Thanks alot

I think I wil get it fixed eventually, it is in warranty till November this year.

With the computer being less than a year old I would call HP directly.  It should still be covered with the factory warranty.

The number for tech support is 1-800-474-6836.

Hope this helps

Hi there,

Ok thanks just a few quick last questions,

Is this a common problem and how long would it take to fix the computer, in New Zealand?

Thanks again,
Jackson
