Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)
So I tried to reset my laptop so it would go back from Windows 10 to windows 8.1 because the brightness wouldn't change. It was in the middle of restoration when it was interrupted, I'm not entirely sure how but now I'm stuck on HP recovery manager and it says -

'Restoration Incomplete'
The restoration did not complete.
Please select one of the following buttons-

The buttons are - About, Save Log, Details and Retry. None of these buttons help as when I retry it sends me right back to the same page. I can only access the BIOS but I'm pretty sure you can't reset a computer from there. I've tried hard resetting also and I can't seem to get out of this continuos loop back to the same page.

Any step by step help would be appreciated!!

Thanks

Hi,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome !

I am sorry about the issues you experience.

Could you provide details about your PC - what is its computer full name of the model ? Here is how >> http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Miscellaneous-Topics-Read-Only/Advice-for-asking-the-quot-Very-Best-Que...

Try to test your PC for harware issues.

1. Please, shutdown the computer using the power button (hard shutdown)

2. Power it on.

2.1 As soon as you press the power-on button, keep hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap).

This should open a HP Startup Menu which may look similar to this one

3. Choose/Press F2 to open System Diagnostics. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform System Test >> Quick test.

This will check major hardware componets for issue (do it just in case) . Here is more info >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467259#AbT1

If the tests pass without issues, continue. If not, please, let me know

Try to restart the recovery process

Repeat steps 1-2 but when HP Startup menu opens, please choose F11 for System Recovery options.

The computer should boot from recovery partition to open you various recovery options. Note, that F11 option will only work if the recovery partition is there (not deleted) and intact. From there, you have prenty of options to choose from.

All the details can be written here >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03489643

Please, provide your feedback. Let me know how it goes an if it works for you.

So I did the quick system test and it's come up with a failure. It passed every other test apart from the Hard Drive Short DST Check, and the failure ID is 94PTJJ-7PN88E-GXGJMG-60UC03.
The full name of the laptop is an HP Pavilion x360 convertible, and the product number is M2X05PA#ABG.

Also when I try to start the recovery process by pressing f11 it sends me straight back to the page on recovery manager that I'm stuck on a stated in my very first question.

Hello,

Thank you for following the instructions.

The recovery process fails because there is a hardware issues - as per the code and the checks your HDD (hard disk drive) has failed.

Since this is a faulty HDD, you will probably not be able to recovery your files or perform the recovery as it is "broken".

Your options:

I see your warranty period has expired  - you will need to replace the faulty HDD - buy it on your own. There are variety of options - vendors you can choose from - you need 2.5 inches SATA III. You can get it online or from PC retail store.

You can also consider installing SSD instead of HDD - this is strongly recommended as SSDs are way faster, more repliable and lighter. More info on SSDs:

How to replace the faulty HDD with new HDD or new SSD: please, find info and instruction in your computer's manual or watch YouTube videos examples.

Here is the Maintancence and Service guide for your model

If you do not want to do this on your own, please bring the computer (or ship it) to HP Authorized Service Center where the technicians will do this for you. I guess it will be for a fee. If you are not sure where such a center is located, check these or contact HP for assistance in finding the nearest one for you:

Last part - once you replace the faulty component - you will need to reinstall back your operating system - Windows or another. So,

IF your computer originally came with Windows preinstalled by HP (a.k.a. OEM Windows), then you need to use HP recovery media - DVDs or USB pen drive you have previously created   or   recovery media purchased from HP. Some general info >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00006110

You can contact HP support to see if they can offer you original recovery media for this computer (a.k.a. recovery DVDs or USB).

Here is how you can contact them :

Option 2) If there is no recovery media at HP, you can try to contact

http://www.best2serve.com/page/rcd_landing   OR   http://www.computersurgeons.com/

to see if they can offer you such recovery media

Please, let me know how it goes and do post back if you need assistance. Looking forward to your feeback/reply.
