I let my sister borrow my laptop a few days ago. I tried to start it today and it's stuck in a loop, alternating between a black screen and the HP Logo. I asked her if she did anything and she claims to not have done anything to mess with it. I don't know what's going on, but I've tried the hard reset and whatnot and it hasn't worked. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I'd really appreciate some help here.

Hi @forrealszee,

Welcome to HP Forums! I have read your post and wanted to help.

I understand that your laptop loops between HP logo and black screen during startup.

Please try if you can enter the startup menu to perform the system diagnostics tests.

The diagnostic tests are run from the Startup menu. These tests check the main components of your computer to make sure they are working properly. Use the following steps to run the diagnostics tests to check for problems.

  1. Press and hold the Power button until the computer turns off completely.

  2. Turn on the computer. Immediately press the Esc key repeatedly, about once every second, until the Startup Menu is displayed.

  3. Press the F2 key. The System Diagnostics screen is displayed and the following menu is shown.

    • System Information

    • Start-Up Test

    • Run-In Test

    • Hard Disk Test

    • Memory Test

    • Battery Test

    • Error Log

    • Exit

  4. Click the test you want to run. Each test runs individually and displays the results.

You may perform a system recovery on the link above if the hardware tests are all good.
