You model appears to be one that HP hasn't test with Windows 8 and HP may never provide full support of WIndows 8 or 8.x for this model. THIS is HP's position on Windows 8 support and any HP computer not originally supplied with Windows 8;

Not all Windows 8 features may be available on all PCs.

Your particular experience with Windows 8 will be determined by the capabilities of your PC.

HP is providing upgrade instructions and drivers will be available for most (but not all) Windows 7 systems sold after October 1, 2011.

If you want to restore the original operating system after upgrading, you must create HP recovery media before you upgrade.

Please note that if you purchased your system prior to October 1, 2011, HP has not tested these PCs or developed Windows 8 upgrade instructions or drivers for them. Upgrading such systems may be difficult or impossible.

The reason you get the "this computer thas not meet the minimum requirmentns for installing the software" error, is because the driver is only for Windows 7.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Hello,

I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center on my HP DV7QE (specifically LM422AV) that has a Radeon 6770M inside, and I have been having this same issue as well.

After installing Windows 8.1 finished installing, I booted up a game and I realized it was using the weak onboard Intel processor. When I went to check the Device Manager, I saw the exclamation point and the error message "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)". I have uninstalled all the drivers/programs/CCC, and I have attempted both the links Paul posted above, but to no avail. Every time I try to get the setup.exe's to run in compatibility mode, they just end up hanging and never finishing. The most recent drivers from amd.com have failed to work and won't even begin installation because of yet another error, and these drivers had worked on Windows 8. Moreover, the drivers suggested on my HP driver page don't work either.

I've put some error code in this spoiler from when I try to install from your first link:

I am entirely at a loss. I cannot use my Radeon 6770M whatsoever on a computer. If anybody has found any solutions to get their Radeon 6770M working with Windows 8.1, please let me know. I am seriously up a creek.

These are the switchable graphics drivers for:

dv6-6XXX (6490M/6770M/7470M/7690M XT)
dv7-6XXX (6490M/6770M/7470M/7690M XT)

ENVY 14-2XXX (6630M)

running Windows 8 x64.

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59001-59500/sp59407.exe

They work like a charm on my dv6-6150ew Windows 8.

Please tell me whether they're working or not with Windows 8.1.

Even though the Win 8 driver works it is disgraceful that an HP engineer won't spend a few minutes packaging new drivers for Win 8.1 . This is why I will never buy an HP laptop ever again. Lenovo  sells laptops with SLI and you can just simply download the driver from the manufacturer's website and be updated quickly. No hassle. I genuinely hope HP will update a laptop model equipped with 6700m gpu just to save a lot of us the headache or resorting to the lesh drivers.

Greetings Phlogiston,

Have the exact same Hardware and OS (win 8.1 64 pro with MC).  I had to download the sp59850 package from HP to make it work again.

Be aware that you might have to change your graphic card settings in the BIOS to a fixed, not comutable, configuration.  This is however not a obstacle to switch from one device to the other in windows, but you must select manually from Catalyst wich one you want to activate.

Hope, this could be helpful to anyone having updated to win 8.1.

Cheers,

ABB

The 6770m with switchable graphics hasn't been supported by AMD since 2011. The reason you're having problems is because your drivers are retardedly old, and will continue to be. Even if you disable switchable graphics in the BIOS, your video card drivers, with the crap catalyst control center, are now 3 years old. Good luck with new games. Some might possibly work.

HP, have we been completely abandoned for drivers for our 6770m graphics cards?

Straight talk.

I see that you are posting on several threads on this forum regarding updating drivers for the AMD RADEON 6770M.

While I agree in substance with you, you are completely wasting your time and effort trying to find every thread to post your somewhat disparaging comments on.

This is a consumer to consumer forum.  NO ONE representing HP will respond to any of your posts here.

Those folks that work for HP that post on this forum are acting as consumers, on their own time, and are not representing HP by being on this forum.

If you want to complain to the HP management team regarding this issue, you can do so at the link below.

I doubt anyone from HP will do anything about updating any switchable graphics drivers for any model, but at least you will be able to let someone from the company know how you feel about it.

Thanks, but I'm not interested in speaking with anyone from HP---as you said, they won't do anything.

I just did a quick search through here for the 6770m to see if anyone had any kind of solution.

It didn't take long to realize that no one did, but I figured I might as well contribute while I was here.

Probably mostly just came out as me being mad. Oh well.
