Product: HP EliteBook x360 1040 G8 Notebook PC IDS Base Model
Operating System: Ubuntu LTS

Hi there,

my laptop (HP EliteBook x360 1040 G8) is equipped with a fingerprint reader (06cb:00e9 Synaptics, Inc). I can't find a driver for this device, is anybody able to give me any advice ?

Unfortunately, HP doesn't provide linux drivers for their fingerprint reader.  I struggled for a week or so after getting my laptop before finding that it just wasn't supported at the hardware level with the then current kernel version.  You can follow the following article for getting it set up to see if it appears, but if it doesn't, chances are it won't be supported by either HP or kernel translation.
