I have a new ProBook 4540s, with Win7 Enterprise installed. I need to encrypt using BitLocker, but the system cannot find TPM hardware, and the BIOS has no option to enable it. Spec sheets list that this system is TPM compatible, so I'm confused as to where I enable it. Any suggestions?

Hi,
TPM is a hardware thing, it's a chip and software/firmware/microcode. Not just from BIOS. Do you have THIS CHIP on your machine ?
Regards.

Hi,
Here is its specs:
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ca/en/sm/WF06a/321957-321957-64295-3955552-3955552-5229455.html?dnr=1
it clearly says:
Security management
Standard: HP ProtectTools
- HP Client Security (Windows 8 only)
- Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools
- Credential Manager
- HP Security Manager
- HP Spare Key
- File Sanitizer for HP ProtectTools (Windows 7 only)
- Enhanced Pre-Boot Security
- HP Face Recognition
- Security Lock slot
- Optional: Security Lock
- Intel Anti-Theft Technology (requires Absolute Computrace subscription)
- HP Fingerprint reader
- Microsoft Security Essentials
No TPM, the Driver Tools and TPM is totally 2 different things. TPM needs a chip. Driver encryption can be software driven such as Guardian Edge on my work laptop.
Hope this makes sense.

TPM is a chip that is used for storing the encryption keys for machines that will use Bitlocker.
However, if your machine does not have one, that's not a problem, as you can also use a USB thumb drive to store the keys. That's too bad you didn't get your questioned answered from before.
Those that are answering TPM questions should know the options involved instead of just posting the parts listing.
