Thanks for getting back to me
I checked your original specifications on this link. The notebook came with Windows 7 64-bit.
Is it possible the disc you burned and loaded was the 32-bit version? If so, that is why it is saying the copy is illegal. No worries though.
All you'll need to do is try to use the 64-bit disc you burned again and enter the product key from the label. Product keys are very specific in that way. Every piece of the puzzle must match up for it to accept the key.
If for some reason the 64-bit disc still isn't working like you mentioned in your previous post, try downloading and burning it again (at the lowest speed possible).
Let me know how that turns out

Dear Axshun,
That was very useful information and I had certainly loaded the 32 bit format so that could be the problem. It was odd but the program seemed to give up reminding me that it was not secure after I had loaded Office. I shall let yuou know what happened with a 64 OS input.
Best wishes,
Richard

Dear Axshun
My grandson's laptop is now back in the world and I am very grateful to you for that critical advice that I should restore the original OS. My major difficulty was that I had already installed the 32 bit version before getting your advice that the original version was a 64 bit. Eventually after much frustration I removed the hard drive and using a SATA USB link and a Western Digital diagnostic I erased the OS and then loaded the 64 bit version. Microsoft accepted the KEY and all went well from that point on.
So once again for your solution and valuable follow through. You have provided a valuable service
Best wishes,
Richard

Great! 🙂 I'm so glad to hear that you were able to get it up and running again. Well done! You'll want to make sure you get all of the latest drivers installed and an antivirus if the computer will be on the internet at all.
Here is the Driver Page for the CQ61-417EZ.
Here are a couple of websites that have recommendations for the best free anti-viruses. It is recommended to only install (have active) only one antivirus program at a time. Some strange issues can arise when there is more than one installed.
