David,   would you copy and past the details from the event log error?

Thanks

I do not see a solution for this issue in the thread.

I recently did an in-warranty replacement of the hard drive on my Pavilion g4-1117 dx laptop.  OS is Win 7 Pro SP1.  I am seeing the same 'file missing' error in the event log after I run HP Support Assistant v6.1.12.1, configuration file version 6.0.2203.1323.

To avoid the error I used Autoruns v10.07 to exclude the file from startup, however, my preference is to get the driver, copy it to the folder specified in this thread, and reset Autoruns to let Cpqdfw.sys run.

I've searched the net for a downloadable copy of the driver but can't find one.

I also have an Application and Driver Recovery DVD DVD sent to me by HP support w/replacement drive, but everything is compressed and I am afraid it will overwrite everything on my system.  Disc part # is 660020-8922 dated 2011

1.  Can someone tell me where I can download the driver (and how exactly to 'install' it)?, or

2.  Can someone tell me how to use the above driver recovery DVD to install *only* Cpqdfw.sys?

Or any other suggestions if I missed something...

Thanks in advance!  🙂

I doubt that the driver is actually required. I haven't seen any missing functionality.
I think it is more likely a bug in Support Assistant related to its being required to work with a large number of different models. The Cpq prefix implies a Compaq driver.

CPQdfw.sys is a diagnostic driver.   It is not required for the normal operation of your system.

When do you see the error occur?

It appears you may have installed an incorrect version of HPSA.   CPQdfw.sys is a diagnostic for HP Desktop computers.   Try uniinstalling HPSA using control panel and installing the latest Notebook version from www.hp.com/go/HPSupportAssistant

Thanks for your responses.  I went to the Support Assistant web site.  The install file is sp54620, which is what is currently installed on my laptop.  Given that I used autoruns to block the driver, I am no longer seeing errors, even when I run the Assistant's drive check.

I'd say my issue is closed.  Thanks for your help!
