pavilion dv7-1240us, windows vista 64 bit, no updates made to system

there are red lines throughout the white background display, it is very annoying. Wondering if it could be the graphics card or is there a firmware/software fix that can be done to correct this. Everything appears to be operating correctly

Please restart the notebook and tap "F10" soon after you power on. This will take you to BIOS screen. See if you can still find those lines in this screen. If yes, its a hardware failure for which the escreens have to be replaced. If no, then it could be a driver issue. Update teh post after the step. Will help to post further solutions available.

Thank-you for your reply. I just repowered the system back up after being powered down for a couple of days and no lines right now. I will use your suggestion should this appear again and then report back..
