USB3 Port Corruption?

HP Recommended
Product: Probook 650 G2
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

After making a copy of my SSD to an external HDD via the USB3 port, on reboot with the USB3 port still connected I experienced a BSOD.

On rebooting without the SSB3 external drive connected, an error message was screen flashed as follows

“A Fatal error occurred, check the HP Connection Manager in Event Viewer for more details.” 

“Object reference not set to an instance of an object”

The HDD copy was then connected to an alternate PC and was visible

The HDD copy was connected to the Probook via a USB2 enclosure and was then visible to the ProBook
