I have a HP Pavilion dv6-3264ca with a Synaptics Clickpad v7.4. Frequently while I'm typing all text will be selected and then it is deleted. How can I stop this?

This has been a problem with HP touchpads since at least my first HP laptop (purchased in 2001, yep, over 10 years ago!). Funny, it's been over 10 years, and it's *still* a problem. It's called "palm surfing", and in my experience every single Windows laptop I've ever tried "palm surfs". Before entirely disabling the touchpad you should first try setting the "smart sense" function in the Synaptics control panel. Experiment with the sensitivity filter setting. Also under 'Pointing' experiment with setting to 'Heavy Touch'. Also, disable "tapping", it causes nothing but problems when you go to actually type text. None of these are likely to be 100% successful but with enough fiddling you may be able to make it bearable. Apple somehow got it right without needing all this fiddling, but they're Apple. They sweat the details. And you pay dearly for it. Sorry, I'll put up with a glitchy touchpad rather than pay a $1K Apple Tax for a laptop that doesn't do as much as my new Envy.
And BTW, when your text disappears, CTRL-Z will get it back. So if you get the instances of palm surfing to be less frequent by fiddling with the sensitivity settings, you can likely get away with leaving the touchpad enabled. You just have to be paying attention.

I have encountered this issue on my own notebook as well. I have found that it is my palm touching the touchpad while typing. I suggest disabling the touchpad and using a USB mouse when doing large amounts of typing. Also, when this happens you can use the key combination CTRL+Z to undo your last change.
How to disable the touchpad. (scroll down and select that section)
Another thing to try is to make sure all software related to the device is up to date and working correctly. In order to do locate these pieces of software I will need you to post the exact model number and which operating system you are running. I hope this helps!

Badtux is correct, this has been an issue with notebooks for a long time. The issue is by no means exclusive to HP. My own personal experiences with this issue have occured on many notebooks by a few different manufacturers. The settings that he lists may be very helpful and possibly solve the issue. However, I still feel that the best solution is to use an external mouse and disable the touchpad when you need to do intensive typing.
Have a great day!
