I have a HP Pavilion g6 Notebook LW350UA#ABA 64 bit operating system Windows 7. HP Assistant is offering me a update for AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver. It goes through the check list with green checkmarks next to them all the way down to the download completion. Then it goes through the installation but stops with a black X beside that. I close out the HP Assistant and it shows on the Task Bar with a Red Exclamation Point still offering me the same update. I would appreciate any help in how to get this update installed.

Hi,
It doesn't look like there are any recent AMD updates for your notebook, so this may be a configuration error with HP Support Assistant.
Try the following.
First of all, uninstall your current version of HP Support Assistant by using the Microsoft 'Fixit' on the following link - this is particularly useful in correcting issues that may prevent reinstallation on machines running a 64bit OS.
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
When this has completed, restart the notebook.
Next download and install the latest version of HP Support Assistant from the page on the link below - the download links are towards the bottom of the page.
http://h18021.www1.hp.com/helpandsupport/hp-support-assistant.html
After the installation, restart the notebook again.
Check if HPSA still offers the AMD update.

Hi David,
I followed your very clear instructions and I just checked for Updates using the newly installed HP Support Assistant and it is still offering the AMD-High-Definition Graphics Driver. I am glad to hear that my computer am not missing any AMD-High-Definition Graphics Driver Updates for my computer. Any other ideas?

Hi,
Can you give me the version No. of the AMD driver offered by HPSA.
Does your notebook have switchable graphics?

This is what I get when I click on the Update.
Specifications
Device: IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
Status" Enabled
Driver: stwrt64.sys
Version: 6.10.6327.0
Device: AMD High Definition Audio Device
Status: Enabled
Driver: AtihdW76.sys
Version: 7.12.0.7701
I don't know about the Switchable Graphics. Is there a way I can find if this computer has that?

Hi,
The AMD High Audio driver is usually installed along with the AMD graphics software ( it's the driver required to deliver audio over an HDMI connection.
Can you let me know the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand Display Adapters and post back with the device(s) listed here.
Still in Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers and post back with all the entries listed here.

Hi,
That all looks fine, but try downloading and reinstalling the AMD software package on the following link.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp54001-54500/sp54457.exe
After this has completed, restart the notebook.
Let windows fully reload and then get HP Support Assistant to check for Updates again - if it still tries to offer the AMD Audio driver, set it to ignore this update.
Best regards,
DP-K
