my presario c700 came with vista installed, but i re formatted and put windows 7 on it. i was wondering if i should just downgrade to windows xp? its an older computer, it might run better and faster with xp. i would really appreciate some feedback regarding this.
if i decide to go ahead with windows xp, i will post a comment as to how well it runs.

Hi:
You will probably get many differing opinions on downgrading to XP.
I would never go back from W7 to XP if the notebook was designed to run on Windows Vista.
You may find you get a little better performance on XP if you don't have the maximum amount of memory installed in your PC.
XP needs less memory to run than W7, but W7 needs less memory to run than Vist so they say.
If the memory is not at its maximum, I would bring it there, and leave Windows 7 installed.

I have a Presario C700 (751NR with t2330 running Windows 7 Ultimate service pack1 64-bit) and I updated the bios to f.35.
- I have tried the 4GB (2GB and 2GB kit), got blue screens and it never worked.
- 2GB inside and 1GB outside, got blue screens and it never worked.
- 1GB inside and 2GB outside and it worked.
I used brand new quality ram (PC2-5300 667) and in all 3 cases Windows would ask to run a repair because it seems like there was a misconfigure hardware update. Only in the third case, windows actually started and ran.
Is there anyone that could confirm and detail if any additional configuration it is needed to get the 4GB(2GB and 2GB kit) to work.
Thanks again 🙂

I replaced the Vista with XP when I bought this one. Now I just spent $3.5 to have successfully upgraded the processor from T2130 to T6600. T6600's pass mark is 1401 better than T8100's 1278. I saw black screen in the begining as well with F1.3 old BIOS. The BIOS winflash has no problem running under XP although it says only suport Vista. Just post here to provide some more information as thanks to the forum.

Hi Paul...you seem to be the guy who knows a lot about these little beauties. A little background. This was my mother's laptop. When I got it, she had let it sit idle for several years. I did several upgrades. I went from the T2370 to a T7800, upgraded to a hgh capacity battery (which still doesn't charge fully, but 64% on this one is twice as much as the original at 64%). I upgraded the BIOS at that time, I can't remember the original version, but it is a F.35 now. Also went from 1Gb memory to a 1Gb and a 2 Gb stick configuration as it seemed to be the only configuration that would work at the max level without a BSOD. Changed OS to W7 Professional 64bit. System was still a little laggy, but was usable. I used it for a year like this, but this week I took the bait. I did the free upgrade to W10. Holy cow!. Doggone thing now runs VERY quickly. Almost as fast as the custom desktop rig that I built. So, I have decided that I can get at least 2-3 more years from this machine barring any catastrophe. I drag this around outdoors and in some fairly dirty areas on both my jobs, so I'm not interested in buying a new machine just yet. Here's the bottom line though. It still has the old 250Gb HDD on it with only a 40Gb to spare. I'm thinking that an 84% full drive is probably slowing my performance down and that a HDD upgrade may be about the only thing left that I can do to this grand old beast. I have a nice new SATA II Toshiba 500Gb sitting here in front of me that I believe can be jumpered to running like SATA I as I believe this machine is speced for. But I'm betting that the BIOS will hold me back. HP tech support told me 250Gb max on the drive but of course, that is corporate IT speak. I see that there is a BIOS versions of F.39 Version A that is designed for W10. Do you think that I run a risk or even a high risk of bricking the machine by trying to upgrade to that BIOS? And have you ever heard of someone getting the larger HDD to work in this machine? Shoot, I'm hoping that if I can upgrade it again, that maybe, just maybe, I can put sone faster RAM sticks in it. Here's some of the current info if you need it (I'm not sure why AIDA 64 says this is running W8.1, must be some kind of bug in the older version of AIDA):
