HP Pavilion DM4
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi I would like to upgrade my current HP Pavilion DM4 Intel Core i5 2450M to Intel Core i7-3940XM. Attached is the screenshot of my current processor (Intel Core i5 2450M) and motherboard (HP 1794 Socket G2).

According to this link, the G2 motherboard can take in Thermal Design Power in the 35 Watt - 55 Watt range.

The new processor Intel Core i7-3940XM operates in the power of 55W.

My concern is whether the Intel Core i7-3940XM will work with my current motherboard and whether it will have an impact driving up the heat  generated from the increase processing power.

Please advise. Thank you.

Yes I understand what you mean. Unfortunately, the service manual was printed in 2008. The Intel Core i7-3940XM was manufactured in 2012. The service manual of course did not list the Intel Core i7-3940XM as an accepted processor.

I did my own research as per the links and found out that the G2 socket motherboard could theroically accep this newer Intel Core i7-3940XM.

I just hope any experts in this forum could share their views and give me some pointers on the next step. Thank you.
