I am having issues with my video card/driver suddenly quits working periodically. Can i upgrade my CPU that has a better video card? I currently have the Intel Core i7-3520M CPU @ 2.90 Ghz with 16GB of RAM with a 1TB solid state harddrive.
Can I upgrade just my video card to an intel Graphics HD4000 or do I need to replace the CPU that has the built in chipset? Can you please assist with compatible parts that i will need to upgrade?
Thank you

You can install a Quad Core processor up to an i7-3740QM. However, that will not change the video system. The video chips for both the integrated and dedicated video are in the motherboard. The processor does some of the video work, but the video chip itself is not inside the processor, unlike the AMD A-series where the entire graphics system is "on chip". In other words, if you are having video hardware issues it means a new motherboard, not a new processor.

Here is the Manual:
p. 36 and 37 lists the motherboards. You want to get one with the same OS version as yours.
This for example is the one that supports Windows 8 Pro and has the best video (discrete):
For use only on HP EliteBook 8570p Notebook PC computer models equipped with the QM77 chipset, a graphics subsystem with discrete memory, and the Windows 8 Professional operating system in all countries and regions except the People's Republic of China and the Ukraine 686970-601
This is a reputable seller and the price of $63 is too good to pass up, I think. If you have Windows 8 Standard (i.e. the laptop originally had that) you would need a different board per the manual and if you contact this vendor they almost surely can help you. Your processor, cooling fan, memory, wireless card, etc. will all port over to the new motherboard.
