Your computer supports up to 4GB (2 x 2GB) of PC2-5300 / DDR2 (667-MHz) memory according to the HP Pavilion dv6500, dv6600, and dv6700 Entertainment PCs - Maintenance and Service Guide.

Thanks for the reply, is that Manual an updated version..?

Because as per this link "http://h20141.www2.hp.com/Hpparts/Search_Results.aspx?mscssid=8EF79498D72C4841886670CA69AFCB4B&Searc..." it says it supports "2GB, 800MHz, PC2-6400, SDRAM Small Outline Dual In-Line Memory Module (SODIMM)" too, so am confused now if I buy this will it work on my laptop..?

Thanks once again for your response.

Per your link;

Memory (DIMM)

598858-001   2GB, 800MHz, PC2-6400, SDRAM Small Outline Dual In-Line Memory Module (SODIMM)

598861-001   1GB, 800MHz, PC2-6400, SDRAM Small Outline Dual In-Line Memory Module (SODIMM)

446494-001   512MB, 667MHz, 200-pin, PC2-5300, SDRAM Small Outline Dual In-Line Memory Module (SODIMM)

446495-001   1GB, 667MHz, 200-pin, PC2-5300, SDRAM Small Outline Dual In-Line Memory Module (SODIMM)

453774-001   2GB, 667MHz, 200-pin, PC2-5300, SDRAM Small Outline Dual In-Line Memory Module (SODIMM)

The 4xxxxx-001 parts are the original components for the system. The 5988xx-001 parts are the replacement components for the system. This is because HP can no longer effectively source PC2-5300 667MHz 200-pin DIMMs. The reason the max size is 2GB, is because that is the max size each of the 2 slots can use... 2 slots times 2GB equals 4GB total RAM. You can most likely source less expensive DIMMs from Newegg.com, Crucial.com, etc.
