Hello, I have an HP EliteBook 8440p, with the serial number: {Personal Information Removed} and the product number: SK119UC#ABA
I have 2 memory slots. 2x2GB for a total of 4GB system memory. I found one of the memory slots right on the bottom of the laptop (it had a tiny picture of a ramstick). I would like to find the other one, but I don't know where it is, so I'm asking for help on locating it. This is the laptop I have, I believe. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c02030597&prodSeriesId=409587...
And so, the max RAM I can achieve is 8GB and I would love to replace the current ramsticks with a 2x4GB for a total of 8GB.
Please and thank you!

Hi:
The other memory slot is under the keyboard.
Please read the service manual for instuctions on how to remove and replace the primary memory module.
Chapter 4, starting on page 4-18.

You can get any brand of low density notebook memory
I like G.Skill, Crucial or Patriot myself.
You need PC3-8500 or PC3-10600 (which will downclock to 1066 MHz).
The non-technical way I pretty much tell if the memory is low density, is to count the # of black memory chips on the board.
Low density memory has 8 chips on each side of the board for a total of 16 chips.
This non technical method of buying the right density memory has never failed me once.
For example...If I had your model, I would buy these.

Hi:
See chapter 4, page 4-17 for the illustration on how to release the memory module from the slot.
http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c02745864
The two #1's show that you have to gently spread open the metal retainers (clips) on each side of the memory module and then gently lift up the memory module on an angle and then you should be able to remove it from the slot.
1. Pull away the retention clips 1 on each side of the memory module to release the memory module.
(The memory module tilts up.)
CAUTION: The memory module is electrostatic sensitive. To prevent damage to the memory module, hold it by the card edge,
2. Grasp the edge of the memory module 2, and then remove it from the memory module slot.

no it does not.
support 1 , 8gb stick
the i5 and 17 are different.
so are the 8540 p and w.
so what do you have, the P
sure
but the sticker ontop of keyboard, clearly states i5 or i7.
the i5 is the most fussy of all to get memory, took all my efforts to get it to work. (8chip sticks will not work, 4 per side)
and the experts here, get this right a matched pair of low density (old types) works.
i found getting 2x 4gig to work and not crash very hard.
that book above clearly does not show any 8gig sticks working.
in fact the Gen1 I5 there were no such sticks back in 2009. so even mighty Intel could not test the i5 with such a stick
it's not invented yet. (then).
how is that.?
now, tell me OP, did your sticks work?? please. post back. help othes !
what works or not, so others can not waste time buying the hopeless cases.... (I have a box full, like that.)
