J9M35UA#ABA
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Is it possible to buy a replacement BIOS chip for the above machine ? It's a 15-F033wm and product number is J9M35UA#ABA. I think the bios chip is HP proprietary. More importantly can this chip be replaced ?

HP would not sell a BIOS chip separately. A really savvy technician could look at it and figure out what kind of chip it needs and even replace it and reprogram it but the labor involved might be more expensive than just finding a replacement motherboard.

There is something of a market for the chips on eBay:

You might contact one of these eBay sellers and see if they have a chip for your board. Then you just have to find someone to apply it to your motherboard and reprogram it.

Victor.

What problem do you have to replace the BIOS chip???

@Huffer thanks but I also need to know if the chip can be simply removed without the need for soldering or hot iron equipment ? Based on the eBwy link it appears that the chip has metalic legs which need to be soldered onto the board. Am I correct ?

Oh yeah this is brain surgery not for anybody but the very best technician. It had not occurred to me that was even in doubt.
