Try the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the below weblinks depending on the operating system installed on the notebook:

Had my sons computer in storage for the summer and turned on recently for the new school year. Immediately noticed wifi wasnt connecting. I believe it has something to do with windows 8.... HOWEVER i started messing around and realized the problem was not an easy fix.

I NOTICED SEVERAL SOLUTIONS ONLINE AND NONE WORKED and lots of time wasted.

I DID FIX THE PROBLEM AND HERES HOW....

The computer we were using is an HP 2000 laptop running windows 8

I noticed that the network drivers werent installed correctly and somehow became corrupt.

If your computer has "HP SUPPORT ASSISTANT".... TURN ON

SELECT "PERFORM COMPUTER MAINTENANCE"

For me it immediately pickup up that my network driver was corrupt and needed to be updated. It then ran the necessary update and while updating and nearly finished you could see the wifi signal starting to click on and off then became connected permanantly.

THis process may vary from computer to computer so lead yourself in the direction of having your computer automate and set up the maintenance.

Also note that prior to this , i did go manually into my network driver tab and manually select " Update Driver " . I clicked on that and it had no results. So try to use the "HP Support Assistant"

THe bottom line is that the QualcommWifi Adapter was updated and its components. As soon as it updated, the wifi turned on.

Good Luck and hope you read this before you spend many hours like i did for the solution.
