probook 4520s
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I installed windows 10 on my probook last week.  Ever since then my computer won't shutdown or go in to hibernation mode.  After 7 hours with tech support from Microsoft they determined that my computer didn't have compatable drivers with windows 10 and HP doesn't have any for this computer.  I'll find it really difficult to ever buy a computer from HP if they won't keep driver support for older models current with newly released operating system.  Heck I might never buy a PC again and leave the pc world for a surface since Microsoft will keep their product lines compatable with new windows.

This feels like my hp printer that they dropped scan to email on it because it's older.  Everything else works on it it just refuses to send emails now.  It says it can't connect but the internet connection works just fine on it.   Or the new printers that HP is now famous for that won't print at all even in black and white if one of the colors is out.  HP is feeling very customer unfriendly and I'll vote with my wallet in the future about what products I buy based on how they treat their customers.

Keep in mind that when you purchase a PC or a Notebook that the day you buy it, something new comes out the next day. New drivers on really old systems are never a guarantee, unless a unit was popular with consumers then these drivers woud be developed.

Since Windows 7 was the last to have driver support for this model (your device was released in a Vista Era) you are out of luck with this device.

Same with how people held onto XP for so long and all of a sudden it was cut off 🙂

If you wish to try Win 7 Drivers, here you go 😄

Hey tfcnu,

I had the same problem with my probook 4520s windows 7 to windows 10 upgrade not shutting down. What worked for me was during the upgrade process, when it gives you the option to click "Change what to keep", I chose "NONE" within the options available. Once the installation was complete, shutdown worked properly.

Of course this wouldn't be a great option if you wanted to keep files and programs on your computer, but for me it was fine as I was upgrading straight from factory default.

Hope this works out for you.
