My power down problem returned with the new version of Win 10 push - I've take the IMEI driver back to 9.5 since it worked before on my X2 Split. I'll see if that fix still works with the November Win 10.

(not strictly on topic of the July 29 Win 10 subject, but people will probably find this thread when looking for a solution for the  November release.)

I have tried a few of the possible solutions posted here and on other forums, ufortunately people are too quick to come to the forums to post a solution not realizing that the problem occurs after the PC has been on for a little while.

It's been months after the release of Windows 10, unfortunately there is no solution to the issue yet.  I run the Windows updaates at least once a week hoping that there would be a solution to the problem but nothing yet.

Apparently in other forums now they are saying that roling back the driver for Intel Management Engine interface to the older version would "solve" the problem.  Has anybody tried this?

Here is the link to the newest "solution" to the issue.

@EdNJ haha seriously i dont think you have gone through this forum.. You said tht in other forum now they r saying abt rolling back Intel MEI driver to older version... If you had checked this forum thn you wud have found tht we had discussed this solution quite a long times before, n it had solved this problem. So better read properly before saying anything abt too unfortunate

Has anyone who was having the shut down problem that was solved by rolling back the IMEI drivers had any luck with the latest set of drivers released 11/14/15? I have seen nothing from HP saying these drivers resolve the issue, so I'm reluctant to try it.

With due respect, my laptop is on for protracted periods, thus the 9 solution is well tested on this end.

I have an HP Pavilion 15 n203tx and faced the similar issue of Shut Down and Sleep, upon upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1, which I resolved permanently after updating the BIOS. You don't have to do any tinkering with the HP Cool Sense or the Intel MEI 11.

1. Go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.

2. Click on the "Identify now" button so that your model is detected. I recommend this to typing in the model number so that you do not accidentally end up with the wrong model- messing up with a BIOS update is risky.

3. After selecting the right model, scroll down the software and driver results and see if any update is listed under BIOS. Most probably, you won't see BIOS listed. This is because HP has not released a BIOS update yet for Windows 10. So, refine the search results by clicking the "Change" button and selecting the version to Windows 8.1 (I chose 8.1since I  upgraded to 10 from it and had no Shut down or Sleep issues then) and click on "Update" button.

4. Click on the BIOS entry from the search results and download the latest update that is available. Make sure it is the right one (32-bit or 64-bit- if you had let HP detect the model it should automatically display the right version in the Download button.

5. Once downloaded succesfully, click install, if you used the HP Download and Install Assist, else locate the file (usually in the HP Downloads folder in Downloads or wherever you downloaded it to) double-click and follow the instructions carefully.  (If I recall correctly, choose the Update BIOS option. Click Next. You will be asked to plug in the AC cord. When restarted, let the BIOS update, you don't have to click anywhere. Once it's done, the system will restart again and that should be it.)

N.B. Make sure the power supply stays on during the BIOS install so that the process do not get interrupted- else you could run into big trouble.

P.S. Don't get scared by the internal fans running at full speed! Stay calm and all the best! 🙂

I am only doing this one more time. Windows 10 shutdown problem is due to management engine interface driver. If you have this problem and have version 11 of the MEI CHANGE IT TO A VERSION 10 OR EVEN 9 AND THE PROBLEM WILL GO AWAY . Intel need to look into why this happening, nothing else will fix this this. Bring up Device Manager and go to Software devices scroll down until you come to this driver try updating and see if you have version 11 and if so change it to version 10 by downloading Intel driver version 10 or 9.
