HP Pavilion dv7
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Recently my HP Pavilion dv7 laptop crashed and would not boot.

This system is the Core i5 with 6gb of Ram.

The laptop was upgraded to Windows 10 previously from the original Windows 7.   Unable to get the laptop to boot, I managed to get into the HP recovery manager and back up all pictures, documents, videos, music files, etc. to an external USB drive.   I have a feeling the HP recovery manager was still on the laptop from the original OS - Windows 7.

I had to put a brand new hard drive in the lap top and remove the old hard drive.   I did a clean install of Windows 10 on the new drive.

Now I want to put the recovered files onto the new hard drive running Windows 10.  When running the system restore application off the USB backup, it attempts to put the files back but errors instead.

Since I am not restoring to the hard drive that I backed up from, is that the reason for the error?  How can I get the backed up files (in their current restore format) off the USB and to this new drive?

Please advise.

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

The Win10 Upgrade is know to corrupt the Recovery partition stored there by the OEM that built the original machine. This pretty much guarantees that no HP Recovery is going to work: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/HP-Recovery-Manager-Blocked-After-Windo...

This means that RESET no longer works on your laptop due to your doing the Win10 Upgrade.

This link describes how to get files back you saved with HP Recovery Manager, but since it got corrupted with the Win10 Upgrade, that might not work anymore:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-TouchSmart-m6-k000-Sleekbook/5375391/model/5447426/docum...

Good Luck
