Things which you should know and do before upgrade:

     2. HP will not help you if you will have any software problems because this models haven't got their support

          with Windows 7 system.

     3. Before you will upgrade to Windows 7 please make Vista Recovery CD/DVD. How to do it all informations here.

     4. All Vista drivers and pre-installed by HP software for your model are in C:\swsetup folder.

If you still have it on your HDD then copy this folder to CD/DVD. You may need them someday.

     5. Users with AMD processors reported that their dv2000 models were very quickly overheated after installing

Windows 7. So if you want to install this system and you've got this processor remember about it and be oversensitive

          on this issue.

How you may check Your notebook CPU (processor), GPU (graphic card), motherboard or HDD temperature?

To do that use HWMonitor (free and recommended) or Aida64.

CherylG (one of the top HP forum contributors which has dv2000 model) solved this problem by installing Windows

         Updates.

         Resource:

         How to install Windows updates

    6. If Your model have nVidia graphic card then please check how high temperature this device have under

Vista. This way you will know is it working ok in Windows 7 too.

How to find out which model you've got and specifications for it:

      1. Click on Support & Drivers link. (Upper part of this page.)

      2. In search box type your laptop product number (p/n).

          Resource:

How to Locate the Notebook p/n

      3. Under notebook picture you will find your notebook model name (example: HP Pavilion dv2205eu Notebook PC).

      4. On the same page click on Product Information -> Product Specifications and you will find all informations about

           your notebook hardaware.

How to install Windows 7 and what you should know while upgrading:

      1. Guide: How to Do a Clean Installation with Windows 7

      2. All Windows 7 drivers you will find in next post below.

      3. Some of drivers have comment then they are originaly made for Vista system.

When normal installation will fail, then try to run unsuccessfully installed file in Compatibility Mode (Windows Vista,

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2).

Caution_if you choose to use your Vista audio drivers , be aware that latest Conexant posted on dv2700/dv2800 series is wrong. After selecting 'Audio' click on the link titled 'Previous versions available' to see other 'Versions'.Select the second in the list.

I did a clean install on my dv2810us which is AMD model.I was pleasantly surprised at how many drivers were included in Windows 7. Even my Broadcom wireless was activated soon into the install.

I did see the overheating problem soon after on this clean install ( also on previous Upgrade to 7 done as an experiment first)...but not fan stopping as reported by some with dv2000 series.Immediately after installation I opened Windows Update from Control Panel and chose to also see optional updates.Once all of those were installed, after a reboot my temps were back to normal.

Only items missing after initial install was Conexant Audio ,Card Reader, coprocessor and Nvidia graphics. The run of Windows Update from Control Panel installed Nvidia graphics and Conexant Audio,Modem.
I installed coprocessor from my C:\SwSetup\Drivers\Chipset folder.HP Quick Launch & Card Reader from this dv2000 guide.

If you have Bluetooth you will probably have to install HP Wireless Assistant and turn on BT before 7 will install a driver. At least I did. After the BT driver installed I was able to remove Wireless Assistant and all worked well.

I installed Quick Play from the SwSetup folder. My Alps Touchpad was working with native 7 drivers, but I did install Alps posted above anyway.

Most important thing to remember is to check your fan! You can also have a utility handy to check temps_but I would run Windows Update soon after 7 installation.HWMonitor here is fast.

Kudos to this guide. I was able to upgrade my dv2700 to windows 7. The video drivers didn't work though. I just used the Vista drivers instead, and that seemed to work.

Everything works well except that when I connect an external projector or an external monitor, my system gets intermittent system hangs.

Can anyone help?

Hi, You've got ALPS touchpad. How to check it. The simplest way to find correct driver for touchpad is to check Vista drivers for Your model on HP site.
