It was a clean install ... I started by formatting the drives.

good news people! just spoke to a hp live assistant about my dv9658ea. (i was having major probs with battery life since installing 7) ...anyway turns out that hp are in the process of testing out windows 7 bios and drivers and that we can "tentatively" expect to see them up by the end of jan! now either that is the best news ever in the world. or he is the best liar ever. and im hoping its not the latter.

That would be great, however, it doesn't coincide with the official word from HP.  They specifically state the DV9xxx will not be supported with Windows7.

Most likely, it was some support person nearing the end of their shift just wanting to get rid of you 😉

Anyone who owns a dv9000 is lucky that the laptop is still functioning at all. i advise you very seriously to contact hp reguarding the video chip that has been placed in your motherboard incorrectly. after a few months, your computer is nothing but garbage and although, hp says it has total care for it's customers, they are in fact lying. I would contact hp right away reguarding this issue. there are thousands of customers left holding a dead computer with no help from hp at all. SHAME ON HP, I'LL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ONE OF YOUR DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS AGAIN!!

I just installed windows 7 on my dv9000 laptop and the dvd player doesn't work on all dvds. I get an error that says that it can't convert analog dvd to digital and that i need to install the driver.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

What is the model number of your laptop?

What program are you using to play DVD's?

The model is just HP Pavilion Dv9000.i am using windows media player, but i have also tried real player and got the error. I don't get the error on all dvd's.

Is this a driver problem. I am also having problems using an external monitor. it doesn't show up as recognising the monitor but the screen is showing up.
